I have only seen pics of Marsin as a foal - do you have any photos of him as a grown-up? If so, I would love to see them
Both these beautiful mares certainly seem to have a similar type even if they are not the same colour.

I want you all to CLOSE YOUR EYES and CONCENTRATE really hard. Imagine where your WONDERFUL Russian horses came from
Then OPEN YOUR EYES and REALLY appreciate the very SPECIAL horses you have before you.
HOW LUCKY WE ARE to BENEFIT from their early life and get these superb horses with their FANTASTIC history and upbringing before us
They have had such a normal/healthy/existance with lots of FREEDOM and space to roam and explore and grow and learn.
HOW many others have this benefit How lucky we are.

WOW FANCY WAKING UP TO THAT VIEW EVERY MORNING
 Hey Robbie who's this
I know this is the Stallion barn - heard it was built thru the early sales to USA - is that right????
This is in a lot of the photos - maybe its from one of the barns???

Hey don't ever think the Russians are hard - this is where ASWAN is laid to rest - he was such a fantastic influence on the Russian breed.

Thank you Aswan

Thank you so much for those photos - they're just amazing. Agonia is such a grounded horse, its lovely to see where she grew up and what made her the way she is
I'm feeling that warm, fuzzy glow of pride knowing that I've got such a special horse (well, to me anyway! )

Hey Lauren,
Glad you get that same glow with your girl - she is so lucky having you.
One can never say they are not HOT occasionally but would we have them any other way
What I love about the Russians - all you need to do is just BLOW at them and they just light your life
Must admit tho Chris does complain every time he has to put the divets back down in the field |

They really are awesome. I agree, all you have to do is blow at them and you suddenly have this amazing fire breathing, storming horse with such a love for life Nothing beats that feeling
Ha ha I'm sure he wouldn't have it any other way though!! |

Hi all,
just to answer Jude's questions:
the grey stallion with the saddle is Aspirant; he is used for russian people who visit Tersk Stud with an excursion ( they have three in a week) and then they can make pics sitting on an arab; first they just Mashuk for this work, as he was not fertile anymore, till he died and now they take Aspirant and yes he is fertile and pls God help, dnt let them use him. And they dnt. And sorry for the owners who owns an Aspirant; lucky that only a few left Russia; but we had several castrates by Aspirant and they were so hard to handdle. But if you look back in the lines of Naslednik - Nil - Sid Abouhom and you know how they were, not surprisingly.
The door is the door of the exportstable; Tersk has an exportstable for horses they want to sell and which they show to potential clients; in general thats what they show to visitors, teh exportstable plus the stallion in that round barn and indeed that is build from the money what was left after Moscow received it from the sales of Menes ( 3,2 Mio), Pesniar( 1Mio) and Peleng ( 3,3 mio), all in us dollars; so take care the stud did not receive that money, the govornement did. The pic of the door is made 2 years ago, you will recogneize it from the horses entering the arena on all the pics i send; entering teh arena when Tersk still made their auctions at their own ground in Russia ( till 1990?); i made pics òf the arena, the door and the grave of Aswan and i have a lot more so when Jude has time, i will mail them to her. The pics of the horses in the field are spectacular, they have two groups of yearlings, males and females who go out as soon as its light, together with a guard on a horse; they come back at teh stud at noon, to drink and then go out agian till darkness; the same with the group of mares and foals; all horses are in the stud at nighttime, as some years ago several horses where stolen and never found back.
Have a great Sunday

Thank you Robbie for the info regarding the photos. WOW 3.5m for Menes BUT he looked a superb horse. At least the stallions got a nice new stable block - shame they didn't get ALL the money, that could have made a big difference
Will remember to keep Aspirant and his descendants to a limited amount in our bloodlines.
I am slowly working my way thru the photos - so many people have said what a fantastic thread this is. To be able to look at the ancestors is far better than just looking at the pedigree.
Here are a few more
BIOTOP (Piligrim (SU) x Bianca)

POMAZOK (Aromat x Poetika)

POTOMAC (Muscat x Panorama)

PALJAZZ 88 (Almaz x Pikantnaja)

PALMA 71 (Aswan x Pokaznaja)

PALOMNA 80 (Aswan x Poznan)

Keep them coming, Jude. Absolutely fabulous. Again many thanks to both you and Robbie for this most exceptional insight into the Russian Arabian. The pictures do so bring to life the printed pedigrees.

Judith, Thanks again for your toil - we are deeply grateful to you and Robbie for this insight.
Robbie, Paljazz looks stunning! Please - tell us about Almaz. I have one b/w pic of him and he looks soo lovely! why did he not sire any offspring in the USA? He has a superb pedigree (Naftalin x Molwa) but he also looks as if he was a super horse. Do you have pics of more of his offspring?

Hi Anne, Why Almaz did not sire any offspring in the USA?? Well a bit difficult as you have never been there After three years at Kossack Stud he left for Mexico and what he did there?? no clue?? did not hear anything from him anymore; he was a nice big gentle horse, like all Naftalins; superb movements and easy to handdle. Have to look for more pics of him, think Jude has two and i have to look through my files to control or i have more pics of his products. The best one, i remember was Penzazz, reserve European Champion colt ( to Nadir); Penzazz was out of Penza ( by Nabeg); he was sold to Abu Dhabi (UAE).
cheers the Kossack Stud Robbie |

Genghiskhan, Welcome to ALines - I am sure you will enjoy the company
Jude, It was Almaz, Robbie meant you might have pics of, not Paljazz
Great photos as usual - does it say when Perestroika is from? I just wondered because of the name Perhaps she was given to Gorbachov as a gift
Robbie, Thank you for your answer - I really appreciate your honesty and your willingness to share your knowledge.

Welcome Willem... Hope you enjoy Arabian Lines. We are all enjoying this thread immensely thanks to Jude and Robbie and others who are contributing photos of their superb Russian Arabs.
Can anyone tell me please, why do some of these horses have numbers after their names?
Also is there anyone out there who can calculate the 'percentage Russian' of owners' Arabs, as is constantly done with Crabbets? |

Roseanne,
I think the numbers refer to their birth year.

the number is the number of the foal and the last two of the year, f.i. 0108 is the first foal born in this year, 4483 is one of my favorite's the 44th foal of 1983 Vspyshka wich means Flash |

Thank you Jude, I know about the Champion Toman, congratulations with this wonderful stallion! I should get my site translated…
First time I visit the Kossack Stud I met Grand, must be about 15 years ago, and really was impressed by his beauty. I lived in Russia at that time and had Arabians there. Horses at that time were not appreciated and I collected and bred quite a few. Later business was not going well enough and I had to return to Holland. I selected about 10 horses and took them with me. Among them two Grand daughters, Gaga and Vologda. Now we try hard to mean something in breeding and riding Endurance horses. I am owner of Russian Arabs but also a believer in their quality. As a breeder I am proud of the two Grand mares but even more of the dam lines of our mares. We have now a grand daughter of Prikhot ( out of Perikola) , Varna, a grand daughter of Pasta ( out of Perikola) Vologda, and a grand daughter of Salvia ( out of Sapina), a grand daughter of the famous Russian Thoroughbred Anilin crossed with the best Latvian damlines. This is the backbone of our breeding program. We breed with our Stallions Depozit, out of Parusnik a 99% brother to Marcipan and with Valaam, Marcipan x the Prikhot granddaughter Varna. We have mares in foal to Drug, Arques Persepolis, Shahied ( Dosator) and Depozit.
