I see there is a star studded entry with folks from Ireland, Scotland and all over Brittain taking part, including Pauline Higgs an ALiner, Silver Linnet who's had some interested lately, Donna Taylor from Bewdley,Worcestershire, Delwyn Hall and Kirsty's taking two men....+many more.. Hi Sue
Were off to horseshoe early tom morning doing the pleasure ride. Not doing main classes this year as Hans foal Due in a week time. I'm riding cons, my dressage trainer is riding Billy (its been ommited from website by mistake). It will be a big change for Nick and we did have a laugh when filing in his rider Biography for the commentator as it read Grand prix dresage rider, ex household cavalry, trained in spanish riding school by rocky (not sure of his proper name) and long listed for Sydney Olympics. Nicks parner Mike is also riding at his first ever ridden event he has only been riding for a few weeks and is really looking forward to his first outing. will give a report tom night. There are some great prizes on offer for the horseshoe this year including an invite for the tevis cup, free covering voucher to my stallion for the top mare

We also did the pleasure (?) ride on sunday at horseshoe and Despite the weather the route was great and I really enjoyed it. I rode Cons who throughly enjoyed it, we did have a fall as we turned a corner on one part of the course and she lost her back end. I can remember it in slow motion and as she fell I went nuts not my other ankle. Thankfully I was thrown clear and she just has a couple of grazes/small cuts and some bruising on her side. Nick the Grand prix dressage rider (long listed for Sydney Olympics) rode Billy my 4yo stallion for me and throughly enjoyed his first taste of endurance. Billy gave him a great ride and was so brave for a baby. The only time he hesitated was whjen it was thick fog/driving rain and he couldn't see the next marker and then he wanted cons in front. He went through the fords (raging torrents at times!!!) over boggy ground up and down narrow tracks etc like a pro and would quite easily of gone out again. He has only been hacked a few times and seemed to enjoy not being on the school. Nick asked when he could do another ride the conditions on Exmoor didn't put him off. The star of the day in our group was Mikey, Nicks partner, he has only been riding 4 months and we reckon he has only ridden 14 times. He and his horse flight went really well and he rode so well. Flight gave him a hard time through the fords due to losing both back shoes (we knew we had to get out of the fords to the road and decided it was better to carry on slowly than retire as flight would of had about a 2hr wait in the rain for the lorry). I had to get off cons and lead them through a couple of the fords (so my boots wern't just damp they were wet!!!) At this stage Mikey wanted to give up riding all together but was chuffed to pieces when he made it to the end and the weather hasn't put him off. I told him if he can ride Exmoor in those conditions he can ride anywhere and it was just unfortunate that flight lost the shoes. We are off to Chepstow Horse Trials on Friday with Billy he is doing the Burghley Young Event horse Qualifier. It will be his first jumping outing and we are off to school him over some scary fillers in the minute.

No. 82 Dean Brown retired on course.
No.23 Non Starter for Day 2, Sophie O'Har-Smith & Pierray.
All horses in classes 1 and 4 through halfway, all passed vets but no. 14 - Gill Talbot retired.

Hi Roseanne, Thanks for the imput, I find it all very exciting, just wished I was 20years yonger, I'd love to have a go at the Horseshoe, would suit my big tough cross bred mare, but she's 16hh and wont stand still to open gates and there's loads on this Exmoor ride...the final results should be in soon those out on course will be heading home now after the second day of 50 miles out on the very wet moor, hope to keep you posted. I see that Donna Taylor took a tumble and twisted her knee, so her & Indigo are out........more to follow....

Keep posting the updates. It's really exciting. Shame it isn't a featured 'sport' on Sky or something. Things like this would really attract people to TV I'm sure!
Couldn't you borrow a horse to do one of the shorter rides? I think you should if you want. You only have one life..... |

| Got the horse, we just don't get on with gates, can't reach most of them and there are loads & at 16h she's not the sort you can keep getting on & off, at least thats my story.... Candy Cameron was in the lead by 12 mins, won't be long now... |

You can teach horses to do gates from the ground. I'm teaching a youngster to do the same now... How old is she?

Judith, Do they get places at Horseshoe, or do they just finish and get the medals with no official placings...not like a race ride...
Candy Cameron lead all day, with a 12 min lead, then lost her silver with a one point penalty on heartrate I think, wish we'd got pictures to go with these results, will have to go next year if I can and take snaps....Paulings Mydass was out lame on day two, Helen McFarlan had a good trip coming home at the front,Donna Taylor twisted a knee in a tumble and I think several horses slipped and fell, one person went off to hospital when a horse hit her on the ground. I see Delwyn Hall was back with a new horse, good to see..
CLASS 2.
Libby Whitome & Imagine was in the lead/winning place for class 2, @ 10.96Average Speed on day 2 @ 3.44, these times/speeds need adding to day one to give the results....only 7 finished in Class2.

Yes - Alex used to live in Telford & kept her horse Mariner of Netheroaks (Judy Collier used to own him) - Maz is now well into his 20s & retired. Alex now lives near Tregaron.

Have just got back from the GHS and Mydass is fine.We think he just jarred himself coming down one of the MANY stoney large hills or may be a slight pull coming through some deep mud.
Sue you only get the medals.It is all worked out on speed
12K and over without any pulse penalties Gold
11k to 11.99kl without penalties or 12k with a pulse penalty is Silver
10km to 10.99k without penalties or silver with a pulse penalty is bronze
9.5k to 9.99k without penalties or bronze with pulse penalties is a completion.
Did not find this years course good.We are told the next year they are going west of Exford which means more on the moors.
I'll be back. I think the GHS is endurance and the real challenge.

Well Done Pauline & glad Mydass is OK & thanks for the info, I had a job to understand how Candy Caneron was 12 mins in front & then beaten by a hr penalty, can you tell us about that & how it works, what is the parimeters for the heart rates. How long will your horse have off now after the Horseshoe, and when do you expect to take him out again. Where are you going next and with who....are you doing Dukeries at the end of the month. and if yes,who are you taking...
Can you also tell us if Eric & Jan got married, did you hear any gossip....and if he was the official photographer, as we all want to see more/moor pictures, I think we'll have to come down next year and take a few shots for the lines and maybe get cliff with his movie camera, I reckon many of these AL'ere would love it, I certainly would if I could reach & get Rose to satnd still long enough to open & close the many gates...can you give us a clue how many there are....
