I thought exactly the same, I wanted to go and see a horse last year and the seller said if you cant put your money where your mouth is dont bother coming. Needless to say I didnt go to view. Im afraid it is a buyers market at the moment and being polite costs nothing

A friend of mine saw the advert and as she is looking for a young Arab for her Grand Daughter to bring on and show she has emailed the person( did try to phone but no reply).
We will just have to wait and see if she returns the email.
My friend has very good facilities, the girl has regular lessons with a very good trainer and they are not short of money.

Another good saying in the same vein, Susie - Red hat and no drawers!
I know there are rules about being rude and offensive on the forum and I think this ad transgresses those rules - it is simply insulting to anyone who reads it. We may look like a bunch of peasants but we may have worked hard and saved hard just so that some day we can buy this wondrous horse!
It is a buyers' market - in less than a year I have bought a horse and carriage and sold two carriages (as Red no longer wants to drive). I came into contact with some lovely people during those transactions, all four of which involved reductions on the asking price, and there is just no need to be unpleasant regardless of whether the sale goes through or not. |

Although I rarely advertise to me the home is more important than the price so I might consider putting POA as if someone I didn't want to have my horse rang I would up the price and if someone really wanted the horse, were super people but hadn't much money I would be negotiable on the price. I usually sell by word of mouth although I have advertised on here occasionally. Often people without much money spend all they have on keeping their horses and horses really don't care if their stables are top of the range or not so long as they are well looked after and loved.
I too thought the ad came across as rather rude.

I saw this ad too and immediately thought, well they aren't going to get any interest!! It's hard enough in todays market without making it even harder...
Although on the other topic, there are many good reasons for not listing a price! And it doesn't necessarily mean they are priced waaay out of the normal price range.... I also prefer to purchase horses whose price hasn't been thrown all over the internet... it's actually off putting for me, so I am the opposite way around... as a buyer I prefer POA!
So I do avoid it at all costs if possible, I find it too personal... after all just because a price has been placed on a horse this doesn't mean it is it's true value... just that this is what you are willing to let he/she go for to the right home and POA saves from judging eyes!!!

Not that I would ever want to sell my ponio, BUT if I found I really had to for some unforeseen reason, I think my ad would read "If you are not going to love, adore and cherish her, and if you are not going to make each other smile every day, don't bother to phone".
My point being, I sacrifice a huge amount to be able to keep a horse, because I don't have pots of money..... but, because of this I very much value what I have. As Barbara said ^ I don't think horses care whether they are in the latest new rug or whatever. so long as they are well looked after.

But one thing you can't control, with the best will in the world, is what will happen to a horse after you have sold it. If you really want to have the best chance of selling to the best person you should not put barriers in the way, and in my mind POA is a barrier and I would never phone. This does not just go with horses but also cars, houses, anything in life. |

may I add the asvertisement of the mare is VERY rude, and I think Admin should have contacted seller before placing that on her website.
I never contact POA as to me it means too expensive... I have bought one mare this year and she was over my budget but seller knew how much I adore her and we were able to make a deal to suit both of us... I have never paied more then £6000 for any horse in my life (some Ive bought very young to be able to afford what I wanted and belived in) but none of my horses has ever needed for ANYTHING! |

Someone said to me once that the people with less money often look after their horses with more care and really appreciate what they have and struggle to afford them because they really care while people with lots of money don't always appreciate the same (not saying that all well off people are like that!), for example there is a girl at my daughters school who's family have a big horsebox, ponies on full livery,go to all the shows, always in the ribbons, and they buy and sell ponies all the time depending on how well they do at shows, I would never let them have one of ours (wouldnt be good enough for them anyway) IMO they are not good owners, but could probably afford the mare in the ad! |

As was curious looked up on allbreed, wouldn't touch, as if 2 humans that close aren't allowed to mate, wouldn't touch a horse from an equivalent mating.... just IMHO |

I have to say the advert made me laugh, she obviously wanted to draw people to it and she has. But that said i would not give someone that arrogant the time of day.
I am also someone who doesn't have a huge budget but my horses want for nothing and are IMO in great condition. Money doesn't always mean the best home. I am not saying people with money don't look after them either.
Also a horse is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. We can all put a huge price against them as we value them our self. |

Well she certainly got every one's attention! How very arrogant!!!
I wouldn't be put off by POA because as far as I am concerned, if your horse is that good that it's worth more than I can afford to pay, then you shouldn't need to advertise it! Most top class horses are sold by word of mouth or from offers before they are even up for sale! |

I think it's proved itself good advertising!
Saying that, if I was looking im not sure I would want to/dare call for price but I feel she is making a good point. Maybe she has had total time wasters who could simply not afford to keep her horse at all after purchasing... We will never know...
It does remind me of what someone said to me once when I was looking for my first Arab. I called and ask if there were any horses for sale, saying I don't have a fortune to spend. ... In my head a fortune is 10's of thousands of pounds. I was told, "no I don't have anything at all. All my horses are worth a lot!". At no time was I asked what price bracket I was looking at. In the end it turned out she did indeed have horses for sale at what I would call affordable... Shame really as she missed out in a sale.... |

I have to agree with Fee on this one
I can't understand why it's got peoples backs up. To me it's a tongue in cheek comment. There are a lot of dreamers and tyre kickers out there, maybe this person has had a few too many of them.
I just smiled and clicked to the next advert................. |

I think the advertiser pays readers of the sales pages a great compliment, in assuming that they will be able to price the horse from the minimal details available. If you were keen, and tried to find out the information necessary to comply with the instructions provided, i.e. that you should not call if you don’t have the required money, you could find a few average show results, a poor quality head shot, breeding which I don’t see people falling over each other to acquire. So based on the information provided and that available via investigation, I’m thinking about 2K. It is of course possible that there are some good reasons why the price should be more than that, but if the advertiser cannot put together an advert which provides that information, attracts buyers, and the right buyers, and buyers who are prepared to do business with her, its all a bit pointless. So, being very nice in assuming everyone will know the price in her head, or a bit silly by giving no real information. There are lots of people out there selling good horses, who are nice to do business with, and are prepared to provide lots of information to potential buyers; might be nicer to go talk to them.
So, its like a quiz eh? I do like a good quiz We have to guess the price so that anyone who is interested in buying can call and comply with the instructions on calling.
What fun eh? So, I say 2K, Higher? Or lower?

I took it as tongue in cheek as well but as almost everyone else is offended she appears to have shot herself well and truly in the foot.
What a shame - she has done a bit and is obviously someone's pride and joy.
