Sue, I don't own the filly, I'm just the guardian of her sire The filly has been very appropriately named by her lovely owner - 'Princess Almase' - Almase meaning Diamond in Arabic |

My mare has also got two small patches of white hair, one one her shoulder and one to the rear of her belly. I don't know if you would class these as 'spots' as such. Do you want me to take some pics?? |

Sue, My chestnut gelding Kharidian (by Prince Sadik) has high white and white lower lip etc as does Kharidian's bay half-brother Red Gauntlet, also by Prince Sadik. Red also has a belly splash. Have a look in my recent post for photos taken at the weekend.
I also noticed at the weekend (now that he's losing his winter coat) that my H Tobago colt gelding (as of today!) has one small white patch of hair on his neck, under the mane. He only has average white socks on the hinds and a modest blaze but he does have a small white triangle on his lower lip (not on his passport/registration and I didn't notice it initially) so he is fitting the pattern.

Kharidian (Prince Sadik x Khiri)........ Alkara Cassino (H Tobago x Rose Aboud) aka "Roger".................................... aka "Chips"
The first image is from an original painting by Pat Shorto.

Sue, Almost All came out with some white spots last year for the first time when he got his summer coat. Nothing to be seen when he got his winter coat but I'm going down on Sunday and shall be giving him a close once over! Watch this space......

Keren, Thanks for the imput..Can you tell me where the info on Bird Catcher Spots comes from....please, very interesting.
Hi All,
Leaving the Indian King link, where there is a nice pic of him. http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/indian+king
If you look at the Arabs identified as Sabino and those identified in the late 1800's above...you can't go back much further.. or you would be in the desert..So the sabino has been there since imports and records began.. (Mesaoud goes back to the year 1887).Not much time before this year, the pedigrees run out... So its was part of the breed.
Some of the other works on the imports from Poona, Constantine and the early remounts and imports by officers serving in the British Empire, in India, Palastine, Egypt etc.etc. and bringing horse back to GB with them or their wives bringing them back, all identifies Arabs and Barbs in those early days... although there does seem to be a fair degree of Grey and Bays in those horses. Many TB ( and other breeds) horses left these shores to go with the war effort, I guess some of these would have gone to the breeding programme for remounts out there and may have snook back into the British imports.
http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/mesaoud Quite a bit of info on this link for Mesaoud and a good pic...
( Just not forgetting there were no Greys in the Welsh Breed, until SAHARA was turned out with the Mountain Ponies. that only covers Grey) Sue |

Thanks Sue!!
Belly pach under water mark, can just see the white marks on her lower lips. She has another patch the other side but a bit further forward, & a bigger one around her navel where all the tiny ones merge. She has much more roaning (robiano?) over the belly & backend now (from about girth area back), but is definately not going to go grey. Photo is by Wayne of Equine view.
Saw Firebird yesterday with all her lovely spots. |

Got a picture of Mesaoud from an old stud book, bought it as a picture from a guy at the arab racing at Newbury a couple of years ago. says he had a white mark on his chin & a collection of white spots under his 'jowls'. Looking at the picture (which is a painting someone has done of him, very nice), he also seems to have several white spots low down on his left flank. Painting very precise so don't think they would have been put there without intent. |

I'll take a photo of it, unless there is a way to load a pgf onto here then I could scan it which would be better resolution. Says which stud book at home, will load details on tonight. I also (from same date) have a picture/painting of Azrek & the description of Hadban, no sight/mention of white patches/spots on either so not from thoses lines. |

Hi Rozy Rider, Really interesting topic and now after all these years I understand why Ginny has spots - has had many a vet puzzled! Ginny is out of Crystal Farosa by Crystal Magician so having checked back on her pedigree, Mesaoud is there!!
