Is when a stranger does something for you just because they know you will like it!!
Yesterday my hubby came home with two large boxes which one of his customers gave him to give to me. He is a courier (actually a fully trained chef but earns a lot more as a courier) on a regular round. Joyce and Bob are an elderly couple, John regularly delivers parcels to them and they know that we have horses.
He was told yesterday that they had asked their solicitor to amend their will so that Joyce's collection would be given to me on her passing. The solicitor said that it would cost to change the will and his advice was to pass the collection over now.
So here are two large boxes. Intreged I start to unpack an entire collection of Thelwell Pony figues, including limited editions figures and also Royal Doulton figures. There are 17 figures in all.
There are also place mats, cups, mugs and dishes.
The second box contains 25 Thelwell Books, many are 1st Editions and all in mint condition.
So here I am sat surrounded by the entire collection of dear Joyce's Thelwell Pony collection. She told John that she wanted it to go to a good home, somewhere that would appretiate it.
Words fail me. I have never met Joyce or Bob. All she knows is what John has told her that I am and avid collector, not of Thelwell (until now).
How wonderful of them to pass what must be a quite valuable collection to a total stranger just because they know that I will treasure it.
I have invited Joyce and Bob to visit the horses but I would like to arrange something really nice for them. I thought a carriage ride would be nice. Any other idea's.

Thats lovely and yes a carriage ride would be great.
Im also hugely jealous as im an avid Thelwell fanatic, not such an impressive collection as yours, just bits ive picked up on the way even the non horse things, i just love it all, but Penelope and Kipper rings so true i just love it. |

What a wonderful thing for them to do for you! You must get them insured (sorry to be practical but the first editions alone will be very valuable, not counting the Royal Doultons and others!).
I think a carriage ride to lunch or something would be lovely. It's hard to know how to respond to such a unique gift! Lovely people... But I'm sure they chose the right person Vera! |

Something like that restores you faith in human nature, after all the thorougly nasty things some folk do, just goes to show there are enice folks in the world. Hope you get to arrange their carriage ride I'm sure they will enjoy it. Also suggest you ethe figures in a Christmassy way with some tinsel and baubles and photograph them to make a special Chrismas card for them. |

It brings back a little sunshine to the human race, after all the doom and gloom.

Oh I love Thelwell, we had a mug for our oldest, but we dropped it one day, so I am still on the look out for a replacement.
But Vera how wonderful to give it to you, true Xmas spirit that is, go for the carriage ride, YEAH!! love that. Monique |

Mandy - John is BANNED from dusting, that way he can't break anything.
Marilyn, no beswick ones, just Royal Doulton and Thelwell, most are early 1980's.
