We're planning on going to watch the Dubai Arab championships next March and it looks a fantastic show!! And I've heard excellent things about Dubai on it's own just as a holiday Anybody have any useful info like good places to stay? It's a bit early to be asking but we're planning on booking soon.. can't wait!! We're going to make it our yearly holiday next year, show season's just way too busy to be jetting off and I couldn't think of a better holiday than sun, sea, sand... and Arabs!!

Mum and I are going next year. We booked our hotel over a month ago now and it was getting booked up then so don't hang around too long! We are staying at The Jumeirah Beach Hotel which is shaped like a giant wave. We are staying for 8 nights so will watch the show and then see the rest of Dubai on the other days. Our hotel has a private beach and free access to a water park so should be good fun!

Depends what you want - in terms of location the hotel the show is held at is fine and has good facilities. Generally it is easiest to get about by taxi and things are spread around across the city. However I would book up now as it gets very full. |

Alethea, I can't wait! It has 22 restaurants so I can't imagine how huge the hotel must be.

Hello My family and I have been to Dubai lots of times now and it is a wonderful place to go. Everything is great. The Jumeirah Breach hotel is fab, the lobby is something else, lovely gardens and pools. The staff can't do enough for you. Look out for one of the concierge guys there called Azmin he's really lovely, we got friendly with him and usually meet up with him wether we stay there or not. Wild wadi (the water park) is great fun too make sure you allow plenty of time there and don't leave it till the end of your stay 'cus you'll want to go back again!!
We,ve stayed at the Sheriton Jumeirah, The Westin, Oasis Beach and The Burj al Arab. (Which really is unbelievable)
I don't know much about the show. Where is it held, what dates etc? I'd really love some more details.
I would really recommend Dubai for everyone, the shopping is amazing.

I went to Dubai about 11 years ago, it was fantastic! I nearly didn't come home
I stayed at the Jumerah Beach Hotel & Zebo the lobby is 'something else'
I loved Dubai and the people, and would love to go again sometime. |

Thanks for everyone's advice on hotels.. Really looking forward to it, it sounds like a really nice place! What kind of price do you think I am looking to spend then to get a really nice hotel? I've found flights for around £250 p/p but the hotel prices for a nice one are coming out at quite expensive! Do you know any holiday companies with good deals on? |

Amy it is very expensive in Dubai, particularly the hotel that have been mentioned in this thread.
I stayed in Dubai courtesy of my friend Michael, who used to work at the Jumerah Beach Hotel
Mind you, your flights are very reasonable. Are they 'direct' & who are they with? |

I've been to Dubai twice and I LOVE it. In fact I love it so much I could quite happily live there. The first time I stayed at the Jumeireh Beach Hotel and the second time in the neighbouring but 5 times the size resort of Madinat Jumeireh. Out of the two I prefer Madinat as it's just unbelievable with over 30 restaurants and bars and a indoor souk and they take you around on an Abra boat from area to area as it's just so massive. Both hotels are owned by the same company Jumeireh International, and both have the most incredible levels of luxury and service, you get treated like a VIP
If you stay there I guarantee you will not want to come home! |

I must be the only person i know that went to Dubai and thought it was - alright. Ate at the Jumeira Beach. The food was alright. The weather was fab though. 40% of the world's cranes are in Dubai. Cranes as in construction and not in birds. Smog City too. You don't see those things if you stay in the hotels. And OMG where the construction workers live. the ones from India. OMG its awful. and as for Dubai Transport - if you've ever booked a cab you will know what i'm talking about. Dubai transport's telephone system is the devils work. anyway hope you have fun. I'm a right little moaner. It has to be said though Dubai to me was like the story of the Emporars Clothes. Still each to their own. |

Around the outskirts of the city is an ongoing construction site, and it will be for years to come as the place is expanding like there's no tomorrow. I read it was more like 70% of the worlds cranes are in Dubai! However if you are staying in the Jumeirah Beach area it's spotless and most of the building work has now been completed. |

ps If you don't fancy the crowds of Jumeirah Beach/the city here's a lovely desert resort about 30 mins drive away called Bab El Shams, it's in the middle of nowhere, very relaxing and laid back spa style hotel, the pools etc are amazing! It's quite expensive though as it's 5 star but you can get some good deals if you search. They have horses there you can ride out in the desert on, I rode a retired champion endurance arab across the desert in 35 degree heat, and that was about 6pm in the evening! |

Can non-residents ride out from that hotel too? Would love to do that while I'm there!
Thanks, Liv |

Hi Liv
I think so, but I was staying at Madinat Jumeirah which is owned by the same company so it was booked through the hotel concierge. Went riding then had a meal at one of Bab Al Shams restaurants afterwards and a few drinks in their candlelit roof top bar, desert views all around, amazing! They also have a separate huge Arabic open air restaurant called Al Hadheerhah with camel, Arabian horse and falconry displays going on while you eat! Google 'Bab Al Shams' and it'll come up.
Some of the Arabs at Al Hadheerah restaurant

The view from my hotel balcony, the Burj Al Arab on the left, and the Jumeirah Beach Hotel on the right (looking really small, but it's actually massive!)

if you want to eat in the Burj Al Arab - make sure you book it before you go. we tried to get a reservation but were told we needed to book 3 weeks in advance. things may have changed now though. |
