We have started pole work again and Kirstie is finding it very exciting, so much so that we can't walk over poles we need to jump them. She grabs hold of the bit locks her neck and hooks off with me. I got my instructor to get on and see if I was causing it as I was anticipating that this is exactly what she will do. She says she gets the same feeling. We have tried a single pole on the ground and its the same thing. I have tried putting them closer together she just clears the lot in one jump, space them out and we treat them like a grid. Any ideas on how to make it less exciting as until I can get the pole work sorted she wont be jumping as it just wont be safe.
Well we tried the circle it slowed her a little but still lots of jumping. Rather than make an issue of it instructor put random poles around the school and if they were in our path just went over them, most of the time she jumped them but came straight back to trot which is a good start. we will keep trying. We did get some lovely leg yield though so really pleased with that. Thank you Mary
