Hi everyone, I have not been on here for a long time. My life continues to be sh...... and doesn't ever seem to get any better. Having battled with cancer, and the loss of our youngest son (as many will already know) I had to put up with a terrible boss at work which became harder and harder to bear, ending up with me losing my job. So both of us are out of work and try as we do, we can't get new jobs. We are now faced with eviction at the end of the month which gives me less than 2 weeks to find homes for animals, or try and rent somewhere. Not really worried about me and partner - we can rough it - but we have 6 cats, 2 small dogs, 37 alpacas, 3 larger horses (well compared to the minis) and 5 mini mares and 2 mini stallions. Not forgetting 2 male sheep (Tiny Timmy who isn't so tiny now and his friend) - then there's the fish, the chickens, the birds!!! Then all our furniture, agricultural and equestrian stuff - 2 weeks isn't enough time to try and sort that lot out! I am struggling to carry on. The only good (but sad) thing is that I won't have to upset or worry about my old friend Shelly - my beautiful Chestnut PBA by Blue John - I had to have her put to sleep on New Years Day aged 37. It broke my heart, especially as she didn't want to go and her heart was strong and brave as ever, but her legs had gone, she was going blind and deaf - but so trusting. Why are all these things happenening? Have I angered the Gods so much? I am at the wrong age to start again, and I have lost everything apart from my partner and my life.

Any ideas, support would be gratefully received.
If you know of anywhere to let (cheap as I have no income) such as grazing land, please let me know.

I can't sleep and can't stop crying.
What else can I do?
I know I will have to sell my beautiful Arab Mare and try and find homes for the minis, but I think they need passports - OMG I will probably get in hot water for forgetting that, but I honestly just can't think.

I will pace the room again and see if I can think of anything useful.

Sorry to rant.
Over and out.

So sorry to hear this and wish there was someway I could help!

Have you contacted your local animal charities? They may be able to suggest temporary foster homes for some of your animals or provide a temporary home?

Oh god, so sorry to hear this ((hugs)). I'm in Essex so no use to you at all. There is a closed group on FB for Arab rescues if you'd like me to post there about your mare?

I can only echo Pasha - local rescues (are there breed-specific ones for Alpacas etc)?

I hope things look up for you soonest.

Have you tried putting ads in your local feed merchants, farm shops etc.? There was an ad for "two alpacas, reasonable price" where I get my horse feed and it was only there for two weeks although you pay for a month, only 50p. Worth a try.

So sorry to hear what a dreadful time you are having. Have you spoken to social services as you should be entitled to something as you have been working. Is there anywhere local that you could do a bit of mucking out etc?

HiSab2 - I am near Welshpool in Mid Wales on Shropshire border.
My mare is SG Palemira - perhaps I will ask Susan again if she knows of anyone who might want to buy her - I am going to try and keep something, or I will have nothing to live for at all.

My heart goes out to you and I feel useless as don't have my own land so trying to think of options for help. Have you tried your vet or local vets as they should have some idea who keeps Alpacas or Minis in your area so could possibly help.
All I could help with is fostering your dogs (if cat friendly) until you got a place where they could be with you again but they are probably the easiest to sort.
Could you get a loan for your Arab lady that would give you some time to get back on your feet.
I am in West Yorks.

Gosh Jan, very mixed feelings reading this - when I saw you had posted my first thought was "hurray, she's alive"!! but I am SO sorry to hear about your predicament. I am so far away from you geographically - Elgin in the northeast of Scotland - that I can offer little in the way of practical assistance - but if anyone with a kind heart and transport could get your mare up to me she could stay here with my lot until you are back on your feet....perhaps a straw to clutch. Take care of yourselves and I hope things start to work out for you xxx

I wish you lived nearer to me you could have my 3 acres for free to keep a couple of horses on but I'm in North Staffordshire. I don't have time to look after someones animals properly because I have a 1 year old little girl. Thats why I have the grazing to spare, I lost both my horses and will not replace them until I have time to do them justice. I really feel for you, fingers crossed you find something more local.

((Hugs))) like Rhoni, I am in the north east of Scotland but could offer a home to a couple of your mini's untill your back on your feet, maybe we could sort joint transport for them up to us some how??? Hope you get something sorted. Passports can be sorted out if we can get them up here. But cant take colts/stallions.

So sorry to hear of your awful predicament, I hope your luck changes soon. Don't give up.

You've probably thought of this already but in case not: I'm assuming that your 37 alpacas are a business (breeding or fleece) rather than just pets. Is it possible that other commercial alpaca owners may take yours on loan with the understanding that they have the value of the fleece/youngstock whilst in their care? Even if the herd has to be split. I know nothing of alpacas except they're very pretty!

I really feel for you and wish I could help in someway,I know somewhere on the web there is a funding site but I can't remember the name of it. I read a story a few weeks ago of a university student who wanted to attend his sisters wedding on the day he was sitting his final exam, he went on the funding site and asked for help and received enough donations to hire a helicopter to take him to the wedding with monies left over which I believe he donated to Charity. Just a thought....... might be worth looking into. I can send you healing vibes and a hug though and wish you the best of luck.

I'm so sorry to hear this but I'm sure you will be able to find some work. Perhaps self-employment? You could put an advert up in local tack shops and offer your services as a groom? Or dog walker? When i moved house, I really struggled to find a dog walker - they were all fully booked and really busy. That would be a lovely job. Or if you were looking for office work, I would be happy to review your CV and perhaps help you with job applications?

Thinking of you.

Thank you everyone for all your support and suggestions, it really is a great help. Yesterday I just couldn't think, I couldn't stop crying - I really thought my OH was going to have a nervous breakdown he was so bad. Anyway, I will reply to those who have PMd me, I am just waiting for a few other enquiries that I have made to be replied to. Things might (I stress might) be clearer tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed.
Alison, if you find out how I can access the funding site, that would be wonderful.
Will get back to you all soon. I cannot express how much your kind words, messages, hugs and vibes have cheered me up.

I'm sorry to read you are having such a terrible time. I'm in Scotland so a long way away and my horses are on livery so I can't really help but I hope you can sort something out.

I do know someone who was talking about getting a couple of mini Shetlands so I will mention to her although I don't know if you are looking to re home them or not.

Thinking of you,

Gail x

Have just read this and hope things are clearer for you today. I'm in Kent with lots of grazing and I know someone who has minis. Life can be unfair sometimes, so sorry to read about your son and Shelly.

Sorry to hear your sad ans tragic tale and series of events, my heart goes out to you on all counts.

Regarding your current situation with your animals I think charities (RSPCA, ILPH etc) are the way forward and also the AHS Welfare officer should be able to help and the same for Alpacas I would have thought. There is also a website called horses4homes, which helps top rehome horses and might be able to help with the shetlands and the bigger ones. It might be useful to put the horses breeding and details on thsi site as someone may be able to take them on.

Really hope your situation improves soon.

Hi I'm very sorry to hear of your bad luck - I do hope things improve soon for you.

I'm in gwynedd area so not to far from you and I have about 10 acres of land you can use if you need too, it's self contained with more grass than you can shake a stick at and I'll happily fill the wwater bath each day - we are high up on a hill so not ideal for winter but may help out over the next few months. Please just pm me if it's of any help... Good luck must be heading your way soon xx
