Weather is fab but flies are like never before and my boy at 11 is suffering for first time, I have a fly mask that he is ok with in stable and I will try turnout tomorrow when I can be with him all day to be sure he is ok in field. Some on my yard have em on 24/7 but I worried about that. Any advice very welcome.

Kalli wears one 24/7 originally to try to protect an eye with reduced vision. 18 months ago she had the eye removed so I keep it on her permanently. She's fine with it, I take it off twice a day so she can have a good head rub on me. Minnet just has hers on during the day but here in Spain they need protection from flies for many months.

They wear Shires flymasks without ear bits and nose flap. The size cannot be altered behind the ears but the pony size fits both my Arabian girls perfectly.

Like DianaSC I have flies for months here in Italy, mine are also in fly masks without ear bits and nose flaps and they keep them 24/7 as I'm on livery yard and can't trust the YO to put the masks at dawn and take off at night,Armos has them off when I ride him,Pasch I will check daily and take off at grooming or similar times, they never had a problem and are eager to put them back on again. It's either that or immediate conjunctivitis…Old Blue strangely isn't much bothered by flies so at the moment he's still without.
I think as long as the mask fits well (not touching eyes) is changed and washed regularly and taken off daily at least to check the eyes, there is no problem keeping them on 24/7.
If you can't find masks without ears and nose flaps just get one that suits him and take those bits off yourself.

Edited to say I realised this is the third post on a flies related thread I must be a flies expert-something I would gladly do without!
