I would just like to put an undate on about the filly in Essex which i bred. I would like to say thankyou to all who was supportive, the filly is now safe and well and had a good wormer. She is quiet happy eating plenty of hay and will remain in at night and out in the day with a little friend.
I would also like to make a response to a few comments written about me. Im based on a livery yard and do sell quality horses or ponies which come in to be broken and schooled by me or sold on someone elses behalf. As someone also commented that i wasnt making enough effort to get the filly back, here is the proof. I would also like to say that becuase I have to come under trade it does by no mean that the horses go without anything including love while in my care and that i did not remove any links to my website (must have been admin). Many thanks for all the support. The filly now has a forever loving home. If anyone would like to speak to me on my work email thats fine lauren@academyeng.com

Lauren, Really hope she manages to make a full recovery after her terrible time. She is one of the worst cases i have seen in this area as i have to say usually they are more on the obese side not skinny |

Well, I think it is a shame that somebody else wasn't able to purchase her. Never say Never, Lauren. You sold her before. I wonder what has changed? (rhetorical question).
Apologies to others for being a cynic...... |

I don't care who or where you are I am just glad that the filly is safe and with someone who knows here and knows how to worm!! I think it is silly to assume that because someone is in "trade" they give horses less that a private , permanant owner! It is so sad when horses fall into the wrong , inexperienced hands and suffer for it. Well done you for getting her back, .....and realistically, if you put her right , and she is sold to a good experienced home I see nothing wrong in that. In todays climate were quality horses are fetching low low prices, you would be lucky to find her such a home, just because she was sold and it went wrong that is no reason to keep her forever when she maybe someones perfect dream horse.!We would all like to think that youngsters are sold and stay in perfect homes forever, sadly life is just not like that. With so many horses bred every year it is inevitable some sales will go horribly wrong. Good luck with her and well done for getting her back. ;-)) |

Thank you Polly, as i said it has all been resolved and I just wanted to make everyone aware. If they disagree I would please ask to keep your opinion to yourself as this post is not for me trying to defend myself from being in the firing line. |

I agree with Polly, there is alot of bad dealers out there but really that doesnt matter now she is safe. At least the filly is back and lauren has still got the filly's mom so she will be back on familiar ground which is better than a totally new place where she has got to learn to trust humans and horses. She will already know lauren and other horses Good luck with her speedy recovery. |

Well Done Lauren....Im glad the filly is safe. I dont know what all the fuss is about people selling/ dealers, I really dont, if no one ever bred and no one ever sold how would we have the animals we do??? It was just unfortunate that this filly ended up where she did and FORTUNATE that she has now been taken home, Lauren put her money where her mouth was and did something......no need to snipe at her for that. Everyone involved in trying to get her out of there should be commended......I did rather hope Lynda would get her as we all now what a good home she would have had. Lauren please let us know how she goes....... |

Good News Lauren - and I'm in total agreement with bridie's comments with regard to "if no one ever bred & no one ever sold etc" I'm sure also that many people who have commented on the fact that you sold her have forgotten about the horses they've bought & then sold Just look on the Sales List.
Best to remember the old saying guys - "those that live in glass houses............." |

i disagree completely, does that mean that you class all breeders as dealers, the people who bred my horses keep in touch constantly and visit regulary, i wouldnt have it any other way, whats bothering me about all this is the the unsettlement of this poor filly, if you breed or buy and sell there is a certain amount of responsibilty in that surely, and having read this thread again i thought she was sold to a friend?? |

There is a limit to the amount of responsibility you can take or involvement you can demand if you sell a horse. You are passing that horse on to someone you may not know terribly well. There is always a risk.
I know of several people who took horses on 'for life' where the horses had to be sold on or put down for various reasons. I know others who have sold performance horses on that have been overworked and suffered injuries through what could be described as negligence but is usually ignorance. In an ideal world we would buy, breed perhaps and never sell - but that's not always the way things work out. You have to take a bit of a leap of faith if you ever sell a horse. Fortunately, there are others (many on this site) who keep their eyes open and are good enough - and with sufficient means - to take on some of these unfortunate victims when things don't work out. We can't demonise those who do sell horses though. No one is infallible, whatever their intentions whether selling or buying. |

Thank God for those people who do sell horses or I wouldn't have my very much loved Anglo Arab. She was home bred and her previous owners were more concerned about the home she went to than the money. The thing is, sellers don't know the buyers and are taking a chance at every sale. Unfortunately there are no guarantees.
I have followed this story with interest as I recently rescued a beautiful 8 yr old TB ex racer from being PTS. I was prepared to take extreme measures to stop the euthanasia happening and managed to take ownership of him at the 11th hour. He's doing very well.
The wonderful thing is, opinions aside, it was the tenacity of the individuals on this forum that has resulted in Summer being rescued.
Keep up the good work ! |

Thank goodness the filly has been helped! as for the case of dealers, as was said in my other post there are good and bad ones! a horse i bred ended up with a dealer as her owner became pregnant and was very ill, having to part suddenly! i was mortified and rang the dealer immediatly, the response was not what i expected! she was a nice lady who said she prided herself in placing quality horses with the right homes and i was more than welcome to come and visit, also, when she had sold her i would be given the new owners number. Well got to say i was very dubious, but before i could get over to see her i had a call to say she was sold! the mare in question is the bright bay jumping in my signiture, and just yesterday i was e-mailed to say she has been short listed to represent guernsey for the BSJA. her owners are lovely people and say its a home for life as their younger daughter will ride her next, then they want to retire her to breed off. please keep an open mind about dealers, there are some responsible ones out there, just remember breeders sell horses too! |
