I was intrigued a while back to see a 'new arrival' whose dam was an Aswan daughter. To me, Aswan is a horse from quite a long way back in Arabian horse history. So, it just got me wondering what horses are around whose parentage/grandparentage might surprise in this way?

My mare Scarlett is due to foal this month to an Aswan son! His name is Desant and he is in Austria at Ta Merij Arabians.

My old girl's dad was actually bred by Lady Wentworth at Crabbet! She is 30 (f. 1978), and he was foaled in 1954.

She also has two asil grandsires, one of whom - Oran - was the last stallion in the UK of all-Blunt breeding.
