Cheers, thanks for that, I have no idea when it comes to all this showing.

I am still in shock at how much the showing halters are to be honest they seem a hell of a price for what they are, I know they have to be secure and safe but they just seem such a price the one I liked yesterday was £120, they seem a bit over priced to me imo, hope i dont offend anyone.

Thanks very much

My yearling has a mane like a welsh cob tail, ive bridlepathed him and i shampoo, spray with detangler then loose plaits, this appears to make his look finer and remain neat instead of all over and he has tons of hair right down to shoulders

Hi gentle001, hope this will help you!!!
It is entirely up to you whether you leave your yearlings mane or give them a bridle path. Giving the horse a bridle path just defines the throat area to try and give the more 'hook' look. I personally think bridle paths are a good idea and all my horses have them. Its all personal preference!!!!!
As for the bridle...... i think that is a bit expensive but it depends on what design it is? If it is just a plain cable halter then that is expensive but if it is fancy then its ok. I have loads of bridles and none of them cost that much!!! The most I paid for one is £95 but its got all fancy bits on!!
I hope i have helped you!
:-)

Also - can i add - if his\her mane is very thick with loads of "foal" bits left, - dont be afraid to "strip" loads of it out.

The method i use is i Shampoo, then smother in conditioner, whilst it is full of conditioner i put a pair of "thin" rubber gloves on and run my hands roughly through, leaveing the hair that comes out attached to my fingers as i go - this seems to strip all the "rough" stuff out, - without it looking pulled!

- Remember a purebred is supposed to have a "Fine & Silky" mane - and too much makes them look "Course!" - all In my opinion of course.

Gen before you cut her bridle path, plait it first, just to make sure you like her with one.
Alternatively, you don't need to do one at all, and when you show her, you can just plait it instead.
It's really personal preference.

You don't have to have a bridle path, it is merely fashion

Great more the merrier at the open day

well if you do a small bridle path and if you think it would look good longer and then u can always cut it longer, but harder then if you cut too much off.

as off yearlingy mane, yeah what jayne said sounds great, and a really good idea. but what my friend does with her yearlings manes, she washes it with shampoo and then slap loads of condisioner (hurbal essecents sometimes buy one get one free so stock up). and then puts hoods on them, seems to lie them flat and silky.
