Jack is very good with most things, especially if he sees them fairly often and most of all, has the chance to investigate them so he can decide they're not scary!
But we have a problem with motorbikes. There aren't that many on the road, and the noise of a bike either very close or moving fast scares him, as does it's appearance.
I read about CD's with sounds on, but I can't find any of motor bike noises! Does anyone have any suggestions?
I realise that won't get away from the 'evil thing on two wheels' appearance, but we would be half way there if the noise was no longer scary to him!
It's cycles as well to a lesser extent - I think that, with both, it's the way they 'whoosh' up and 'appear'!

You need to go to the Isle of Man at the end of May for the TT races, armed with a tape recorder! I think my hubby used to have a record with a fighter plane going overhead (don't ask ...), but not heard of anything with bikes on though there probably will be somewhere.
I find most bikers are understanding of the problems we minority road users have, and they normally slow down to a crawl past me when I'm on my mare. Still, there's always the exceptions ... And cycles can often be worse than a noisy Triumph, especially when the macho man just has to get up the hill without stopping for anything! |

Kelly could you not try recording the bike racing when it's on the tele?
I am quite lucky as my paddock although up a lane gets lots of scary traffic going by including combine harvesters, jcbs, trucks, off road bikes nipping between bridle ways and my oh cycles to work every day so they see daddy on wheels everyday and he always shouts of them as he passes
Add to that a 8 year old son , 2 year old lab and now chickens and my two are pretty much bomb proof |

Just before we move - ask Howard to pop round with his Aprilia! I got him to come to St Ives when Tamba was there and he fed him carrots from the back of the bike with the engine running! |

Hi Bev
Oh wow - if Howard has time I would be so grateful! Could you possibly ask him and see if he would mind - I don't want to put him (or you) out though.
You see, THIS is why I love AL!

He's here tomorrow for Tamba's birthday party so I'll ask him.
We're back in Yorkshire next weekend and it's the bank holiday so I'll ask him if we can pop round then.
You'll need to let me know where you are etc and fix up a time. I'll let you know what he says when I see him tomorrow.

Howard says fine.
We're in Yorkshire Saturday through Monday. Most of Saturday is booked but we could call round with the bike on Sunday or the bank holiday Monday.
We need to make all our arrangements before Friday as we have disconnected the phones and the broadband at home
Still have mobiles though!
Can't remember exactly where you are so do you want to email me details and ideas of a good time/date

Sorry but this is sounds crazy! Does it actually work? My gelding will stand an 'talk' in our yard to tractors, quadbikes and noisy motorbikes. But still has major issues with them when out riding. So if a horse gets used to noises in the comfort of its own surroundings do you then have to take a good stereo system out hacking with you to desensitise further.
I thought about getting a tape of HOYS type music to desensitise my gelding in case we ever are fortunate to get there. BUT I don't think it is the music, it is the atmosphere they need desensitising too and how do you so that apart from go????????
