Relatives of mine have a cat thats 23 years old - they have had it from a kitten! Is that a good age for a kitty?

I would think 23 is a very good age. I have a cat that is 15 and I thought she was an old girl! She'll be very lucky to see 16 though if she craps in my bedroom one more time! |

I'd say that's pretty ancient Judith. I know a cat breeder who had two stud cats who both lived to 21 and she thought that was old. My Siamese female is 18 and her son 17, they both look a bit frail, but are otherwise healthy (touching wood) |

LOL know the feeling Mine are lively enough and very vocal, but a bit 'slim' (not a porky breed anyway). The male never was the brightest spark, but seems to have got dafter with old age, however his mum is still as sharp as ever. |

That's a great age! My yard cat, that I've adopted since moving to the yard, is supposed to be 20 and doesn't look it so I hope he lasts a few more year yet.
All my cats are mere kittens compared to that - ages from 3 to 8. |

Hi Judith, have put a reply on there. I can not for the life of me think of the name of the woman I am thinking of! I know Gail Andrews is from the same area, and think she had a related gelding at some point. |

When i was a child i grew up with 3 cats, two of which my mum had got way before i was born. One of them, Clara, was 22 when she died. The funny thing was that she was really shy. She would hide behind furniture, she only liked my mum and she would leg it if someone strange came in the house. When I was about 16 Clara had a stroke, she was ok although held her head to one side! The stroke meant she completely forgot she was a shy cat and all of a sudden she was meowing like mad and demanding attention! It was very odd - but sweet. She lived like this a few more years before she died. |

My nan's cat lived until the grand old age of 24. She did have kidney trouble but that wasn't what killed her....she got ran over by a car. Such a sad way to go for such an old cat!
