Apologies for the poor quality video (the DVD wouldn't upload so I recorded the VHS through my TV onto my phone).

I'm not going to give any details at the moment but I'd like to see what people think of this 6 minute clip and then I'll tell you when/where it was taken.

Wow, Chris - I remember Dahookah from the good old days!
Kerry Wilson Posted - 27 Jan 2015 : 11:40:50 AM
Yes Jan aka the flying Dutchman, showed the beautiful Achim , can't remember who showed Resolute Bay, probably Robin Carr, but the Carrs stud was quite close to Dr Houtappels (sp?) so they might have got Jan to show theirs too one year?
Kharidian Posted - 27 Jan 2015 : 10:53:20 AM
Kerry, oh, was that the same handler who showed Achim? I think I remember him actually holding Achim's withers and almost "flying" to keep up with him....unless it's another stallion I'm thinking of...at the back of my mind I'm thinking of Rezolute Bay and the handler with seven-league-boots, however I agree with your comments.

Claire, I will post the picture of Pomona that Hullaballoo (Jan) emailed...once I crank up the ancient computer rather than surfing with the iPad.

That video just shows the 'beginning of the end' to me --- Jan Calis, great showman that he is, introduced the 'continental' style of showing to us with Cherif and Achim, this was lovely -we all said how wonderful it was to see the horses move freely and not have their heads pulled round by their elderly owners trying to show them :-/ little did we know the foolishness of our words or where this would all lead :-( It is all about extremes? and money...
Chris James Posted - 26 Jan 2015 : 7:07:47 PM
Misshana - I totally agree with you. I'd like to think that the trot comes from General Grant - but not totally sure(!) however, my mare Dahookhah (now 29 yrs old) is a G Grant granddaughter -out of Dahshan. (& by Gai Warsaw) She was a multi champion under western & english saddle but more importantly we covered 100's of miles around the Peak District and her trot just powered us on!! We still ride around the farm & she takes all my grandchildren too.
Claire Posted - 20 Jan 2015 : 9:07:03 PM
Oh fabulous will look forward to seeing her. If anyone knows how to change a pedigree on allbreeds I would be grateful as polly project's (my geldings dam and daughter of Pomona)pedigree is now wrong
Hullaballoo Posted - 20 Jan 2015 : 3:10:39 PM
Thanks for posting the pic for me Caryn.

Claire, we have gone a bit off topic, but yes, I do have a pic of Pomona, in an AHS HOCON Group booklet published in 1988. I have scanned it and will send it to Caryn/Kharidian, who, I'm hoping, will be kind enough to put in on here for us.

Pomona is by Iridos (Irex x Rafina) out of Yet Again (K of K x Yetima). She was bred by Cecil Hough and apparently her very old English blood lines trace to the mare Kesia. I'm sure there are others on AL who know far more about this than I do.
garnet Posted - 17 Jan 2015 : 7:45:55 PM
He's fabulous! Edited to say that Garnet also has Grojec in her pedigree, and although she doesn't have Mikeno she does have Blue Domino. When I lost Autumn Light (Marino Marini x Autumn Bride) I desperately wanted another Mikeno but Garnet stuck her head over the school fence at Vlacq and said 'Buy me' so I did!
Ari Posted - 17 Jan 2015 : 5:25:42 PM
Wow Hullabaloo! He looks to be really floating, I can't see a hoof on the ground, fabulous.
Claire Posted - 17 Jan 2015 : 4:39:56 PM
Off topic but just seen the post about Pomona who is my boys grand dam he is by shah n shah al nowak and out of polly project who is a daughter of Pomona. Unfortunately someone appears to have fiddled with allbreedpedigree so now her pedigree is wrong! Do you happen to have any pictures of her?
Pashon2001 Posted - 17 Jan 2015 : 3:08:05 PM
Shanking Vik1?? Geesh, god forbid that anyone pulls their horse up when he breaks trot or commands his attention lol!!! Unfortunately I like the modern pose and extra flamboyance. This does not mean I like terrified horses, all mine do it without being terrified!

Cor look at him go! Very nice :)

I love this thread and reading all the comments.
Kharidian Posted - 17 Jan 2015 : 10:04:38 AM
Posted for Hullabaloo, this is the eponymous Hullabaloo (Mikhan of Pulpits x Pepita Petrouska) showing his "Mikeno trot". He is closely related to my Kharidian as Kharidian is a Khan grandson and also has Grojec on his dam's side.

Thanks for posting this video. It is lovely. My mare has Mikeno in her pedigree too and she also does that lovely floating trot.

Thanks for posting the cantering through the stubble field also. That is a sight I really really miss now I can't ride Tara anymore :-(
Kharidian Posted - 16 Jan 2015 : 3:04:39 PM
Jan, I post via Photobucket so it's probably easier for you to email me and I'll post it for you. My avatar is, of course, Roger. My email is caryn[at]himsley[dot]org (disguised to avoid computerised spam).

Yes, I did that Essex Bridleways county ride, have forgotten where we actually rode, it's so long ago but do remember starting at the Anne Boleyn pub Rochford, near where the new Southend Airport railway station is now. Much later that day we finished up at Heronstream Stud at Rawreth, still trying to remember how we got home...but I digress from the thread, sorry...

I would really like to post my pic of Blue doing his flying trot and representing the Mikhan of Pulpits/Mikeno family. Can you advise how to insert an image please? Or, if I send image to you, could you put it on here for me?
thanks, Jan.
Kharidian Posted - 15 Jan 2015 : 2:05:52 PM
Hello Jan, yes I remember you! You were EBA photographer/press relations weren't you and I certainly remember you at HOCON when Jane showed the fabulous Imazh (didn't the old boy have a fantastic sense of humour)! I think you also took part in that round the county ride about a zillion years ago that the wonderful Deirdre organised to raise funds & awareness for EBA. You've moved to Suffolk I believe?

Hullaballoo Posted - 15 Jan 2015 : 12:10:16 PM
Caryn, you may remember me Jan Harber from EBA days way back and also we met in 2013 at Norton Heath when Jane van Lennep showed Imazh in the vet stallion class.
Yes, Hullaballoo (aka Blue) was bred by Jackie Howe. He is out of Pepita Petrouska (who was out of Pomona by Grojec).
My previous part-bred Hawkswood Sahib had Mikhan as a grandsire. He didn't inherit the action but excelled at jumping, cross country and hunter trials and I believe that love of performance did come down from Khan?
If someone can advise me how, I will insert a pic of Blue doing his "flying" trot on a ride at Shrublands some years ago. Am on a Mac and when I click on Insert Image nothing happens?

Kharidian Posted - 14 Jan 2015 : 4:43:10 PM
I haven't commented on the Lloyds Bank Supreme as that is very muddly on the video - first of all reserves weren't allowed in, then they were.

Ralvon was definitely BNC stallion and Mikhan was reserve though, I've got that clearly on tape.

Misshana Posted - 14 Jan 2015 : 4:40:05 PM
The mare I bought went back to Mikeno on sire line and General Grant on dam line. I have never ridden anything else with that amazing trot. Everything else would canter beside her when she went into 'overdrive'. Even her son who I still have has never been able to trot like that. Oh such happy memories
garnet Posted - 14 Jan 2015 : 4:27:25 PM
Thanks Caryn, that's great. Red also has Mikeno in his pedigree as his great grandsire and twice more 6 generations back, and in spite of being a 16hh PBA he still has that amazing floating trot like flying. I wish we heard more about Mikeno's offspring - he was such a star!
SueN Posted - 14 Jan 2015 : 4:25:52 PM
Ralvon Elijah did not compete in the Supreme (Lloyds Bank Ch) as he had already qualified.
Kharidian Posted - 14 Jan 2015 : 4:09:02 PM
Hullabaloo, was your boy bred by Jackie Howe? I know what you mean about the other gear; my Roger (Kharidian, Khan's grandson) also had that amazing extended trot both in hand and under saddle - I've always said at the closest I've ever felt to being "out of control" on Rog is when he's in that effortless-keep-going-all-day extension! He's 22 this year so it's a rare occasion now but it feels wonderful.

The full results of Class 17, Veteran Stallions (AHS National Show 1985):
1st, 660 Mikhan of Pulpits aged 19
2nd 663 Cherif aged 17
3rd 665 Hanif aged 23
4th 662 Rodan El Azar
5th 664 El Zaeed
6th Autumn Dragonfly
7th Dennybeck Danny

British National Champion: 627 Ralvon Elijah
Resv BNC: 660 Mikhan of Pulpits

Unfortunately the announcer missed out a place number so I have assumed he got the number wrong but mentioned all the horses; if not, 5th-7th are actually a place lower and 5th hasn't been announced at all.

AllBreedPedigree isn't working at the moment so I haven't been able to check I'd heard the announcer correctly.
