Well, how did you all do? You asked us to wish you luck so we at least expect some feedback! I only made it on Saturday so would love to hear how you all did and I hope you really enjoyed your days at the show.
Barbara
PS. Sorry I lied to you when I said I wouldn't buy any books. I am like a junkie craving a fix and bought more than ever this year. In fact Madeleine (Arabian Emporium) had a clear out of some of her books and said she brought them as she thought I would there!!! Thanks,Madeleine.

Oh, was I sitting next to you on Saturday, Barbara? I was in the grandstand in the second row by the aisle next to someone who had bags full of books - you were with a man who was in the first row and you left just before the end of the ridden championships?

We took mika who won coloured champ, reserve Bnc part bred, uk supreme pat bred champ.... I think that's what there were anyway! Plus another first but can't remember what it was! To say we were pleased is an understatement! He was just such a show off! SIm still recovering! Had a fantastic time, not all the noise and 'outside assistance' though, especially in the mare and foal class. Luckily we were so busy didn't have time to watch . Would have loved to have seen more of the ridden, and more peeps...but just no time ! Saw some fab horses there in between running around though.... :) |

We had a great time, last in our in hand Crabbet class , enjoyed the endurance to riding horse class but nearly didn't go in as in the collecting ring Bryn saw the lovely Binley Prince Salim.. they compete together in endurance so Bryn was 'OK game on we are racing!' and totally lost the plot!! Still although we were a bit onward bound (to say the least) the judge liked him and we came 4th despite my not having a clue what I was doing! I am SO not a show person but the ridden championships were lovely indeed to watch Lovely lovely horss but wouldn't swap my Bryn for the world!

Hi Caryn, yes that was me and my friend Duncan; nice to have sort of met you! We really need big "ALiner" badges. Duncan meets me for a lift and my husband likes driving so he drops us off and does his own thing for the day; he has no interest in horses. I remember him answering the phone one day and I heard him say "Yes, I have heard my wife mention that horse, she likes it (IT for heavens sake!) as well" before handing me the phone. It was someone asking about my stallion "Spanish Crusader" by Crusader. Well, he was born and bred here and is my lovely stallion known at home as Sultan, he sees him every day. How embarassing was that!
Well done, Libby, sorry I wasn't there to give you a huge cheer.
Callisto, not sure "books are always good" though; it has to the stage where I need a second study for them all and our study isn't tiny!!!
Debs, that is fantastic, any photos. You must be so proud. I am sure you will remember it for the rest of your life. Well done Mika.
Lisa, shows Bryn has his mind on the job even if it was the wrong job!!! Reminded me of when I took Lanta to a one day event and he was a total nightmare in the dressage. The judges comment was "A very spooky round quietly ridden". He really was just a happy hacker, none of that fancy nonsence for him.
Deds, no idea what "naughty little Ali" did (or didn't ) do but I am sure he is a great little man.
It is people like you who make shows so enjoyable. It is great to see the professional and their lovely horses but it is the rest of you who make the shows what they are.
I saw the straight Egyptian classes at the far end and a huge congratulations to Lisa and Darren from Malthouse who won the straight Egyptian 1 to 3 year old class with their filly and the Egyptian related 4 years and over with their mare and then went on to take the championship and reserve champion. I have seen both of these horses from tiny foals and they are stunning; when I win the lottery I will be there making them an offer they can't refuse for MH Maarvana she was absolutely stunning. All their horses are so well looked after and are such happy horses. Well done Lisa and Darren; hope the knee is on the mend, Lisa.
Gald we all had a great time and the weather was fantastic. Thanks to the AHS and to all the people who worked so hard to give us a fantastic show and can all those who sell books please stay away in future.

Quite right Barabara as you commented on my thread...so excited. Your words are still in my mind, the horse you take, is the one you bring back (something like that). Well we had an amazing day. Skye travelled like a pro and his behaviour coming of the ramp had an air of calmness and maturity. That stayed with him all day. He showed very well with smashing manners. I don't think the judge was too impressed with him as he was put last and her kindly said comment was ' this is a very high standard of showing, but your boy will make a nice riding horse' . TBH, he did look out of place, as he is huge and maybe he was in the wrong class. I think, on reflection a sports horse class would be better for him. I couldn't have wished for such a good day for a very young horse, who took everything in his stride. It was my first visit to the show and I loved it. The fabulous backdrop of the Malvern Hills, the sun was shining and I met some folks....including Daphne Cocksedge who bred Skye. And I have some beautiful photos of my boy and the compliments about him, are still ringing in my ears.

Travelled like a pro, mature calm behaviour, had smashing manners and will make a nice (I think fab) riding horse. What more can we ask in horse. That is worth a million times more than any placing in a show ring. He did you proud and you have a lot to look forward to. |

That is the type of comment which makes my blood boil. It is worse than the one I had when showing my two year old. The judge asked me how old she was and when I said 2 she said it was such a shame that the other horses in the class did not behave as well as her as at least she could see how beautifully she moved and was made. She came last!!! |

Thank you for your comments. I have had a look at his professional photos and of course to me he is fab. I will admit I was a little disappointed that he came last. I suppose I thought the judge would see all the hard work we have put in to pull this boy around. But, also I actually thought that is what Crabbet's are suppose to be is a riding horse. He was in a class of 1 to 3 year olds. I think he may have been the oldest. How do you separate different stages of growth and maturity in a showing class with such an age gap. The show was super and well run thou. On reflection I couldn't see what else we could have done for his manners to be recognised as a good advocate for the versatile Arab.....stand on his hind legs maybe. And I do see this boy, ears *****ed, lovely floating paces and enjoying every moment of his first pleasure ride...me on his back ( hopefully) having fun. I could always persue a showing future for him....round and round the ring....nah be a waste of him!!! (Said with tongue in cheek). |

I would be delighted with the commend "will make a lovely riding horse" - i'm sure he will! I was told that when i took Gus to BACS as a 2 & 3 year old, he did really rather well for a horse shown by a complete amateur (very well placed both times and a couple of reserve championships) and each judge told me he would make a fantastic riding horse.
Well done Ruth (and everyone else that went!), i'm so glad your boy behaved and thats showing for you - another year/judge and you'd have been at the other end of the line. Hopefully you will take him again and do the sports horse classes too :-) |

Oh Barbara I jdo adore my little monkey... Would have loved to have taken him but he requires more schooling it's a long way to go and expensive for just an in hand class! To me he is fab, whether or not a judge would think so I have no idea! Even though he is a monkey sometimes on Sunday some Pratt in a very old, very noisy motor bike with side car frightened him so much he spun round and cantered off....towards an on coming car, I lost my balance and flew off, landed on a foot and managed to stop him. Not the Pratt on the motor bike though I was raging! And shook up, but got back on and he was really good! Just settled back down straight away! Poor boy! Maybe he will make it next year!i know mika (SAS I feel frisky) will be there!
And what's the point in having a horse if it couldn't make a nice riding horse???? |

I so agree Tamila. A few years ago I was showing my boy at Newbury. After the class we spoke to the judge, see if his comments could help us in the future. He said the horse was well put together with good conformation and yes he was last. Its who you know not how good the horse is.
My lad has gone on to be a good calm endurance horse.
I went to the show on Saturday and was so disappointed, it was dull, and seemed empty and oh yes they are still screaming and banging. |

Ruth that comment on Skye was really dumb and in my opinion it shows all that is wrong with the Arab showing world today. He looks beautiful and will make a wonderful riding horse. |

Yes, screaming , banging, whips... Not my idea of good showmanship! Pleased sue won with mica up against the professionals too, not 'outside assistance' just a calm horse that lit up when he moved! A normal horse, kept out, in during day through summer, turned out with his mates... Sue will be working on ridden as he is still green, she is showing at the cherish at Addington next month... Almost local to us so will be nice and easy! Look forward to seeing your boy in the ridden crabbets.... |

On reflection it was good fun and a good education for him. A long way to travel in the heat. He didn't deserve last only IMO though. He has his BEF futurity grading for endurance next Saturday. Let's hope he does well. I don't think showing is our thing. It's all a bit too clicky for my liking. I shall look forward to the riding bit which it is what it's all about. |

I've looked at your photos on the ES site Ruth and he's lovely. He'll go out and do a proper job - just looked on any showing, and the evaluations too, as training for him seeing the outside world, getting used to travelling etc. I do some in hand with Gus when he was 2/3 years old - not lots but we did trail down south a few times to C shows and BACS etc - it has stood him in excellent stead for his ridden career |
