I had a lovely Crabbet mare who was a fabulous riding horse and that combined with not having my own facilities meant I only bred 1 foal. I always will have a regret and sadness about that. Linda I so agree your point, the Arab now in my life was chosen at 18mths for his temperament and conformation and he is (I am told by learned Aliners) a mix of Crabbed Old English Babson. He was advertised as "Egyptian" but to be honest at the time it was irrelevant as I was only looking at the horse not the pedigree.
