Was wondering if anyone could help me. I found a hard lump on my horses neck last week. It is about the size of a pea and rock hard. Then the other day I found another one on her hind quarters. I have played about with it and my horse doesn't even bat an eyelid so it's obviously not bothering her or sore. It's not sarcoids as had dealings with them before and there is no entrance to it like a bite would have. Anyone ever had this on their horse?

My horse gets these every year. they can appear on his neck, hind quarters and under the saddle area. Vets tried treating them with steroids but no affect. I ignored them last year and this year he doesn't seem to have as many!

Not fly or midge bites are they? Mine gets them and usually go within a day or two.

If you mean a pea like lump under the skin that you can get your fingers around and under, one of my old mares developed this in her chest area. She was grey so I wondered about melanoma although there was nothing actually on the skin itself. It remained there until she died, never got any bigger or changed. She was getting on when I found it so whether its to do with ageing like older people with warts/moles etc that just appear. Never found out what caused it.

Sounds like protein lumps, caused by rich spring grass,if so they are nothing to worry about it.

They could be sebacious cysts?
They are lumps of gristle just under the skin. They can grow to about the size of a brussels sprout.
I had a black cob with one on his breast and a friend has an arab gelding with one on his stifle.
So long as they are not in a place that rubs or gets knocked because of it, vets leave them be. They cause no harm. They can be removed by a tiny operation if they affect showing marks, but may return in the same place (some seem predisposed to them).
My OH gets them too, lol.
Just another thing to add to the maybe list!

Hi mine gets them and they can be in his saddle area, they come and go and he only gets them in the summer. Like you say they don't bother him i give them a poke and he does not bat an eyelid i just put them down to bites of some sort. I have given him antihistamines before which has made a difference and they do go down.
Sorry not much help it would be good to know what they are thought!
