I took my baby part bred Wolfie to his first show at the weekend. It was only an ickle local jobbet but was a nice one for a first time out. He was ever such a good boy - I'm still about just how well he took it all in his stride. He did some really nice trot ups and was quite interested in the view from the showground which bodes well for the future.

Some pics:

Oh and he won the coloured class, too, which I really wasn't expecting and was the icing on the cake.

If anyone has any comments on our turnout/presentation/etc if I was to enter him in a part bred arab class, I'd be glad of constructive critisism.

Well done you and your lovely boy Wolfie. You have turned him out beautifully and that is fine for a Part Bred Arab class

Your turnout is also complimentary and tones well with his colour. The only slight critisism is your hat. In hand exhibitors wear a beagler hat (no chin harness) However, if you feel you need to wear the chin harness, try and obtain a hat with a skin coloured harness which looks much smarter

You can see how much smarter a beagler hat looks. You could use an older traditional hard hat and cut off the chin harness, which would serve the same purpose for in-hand classes

The horse in the photo is wearing the correct in-hand bridling for mature horse classes (for Anglo/PBA and Hack) The only other addition to complete your turnout would be a show cane.

Your bridling is correct for a yearling but if you wish you may show bitted, but led off the noseband. A colt/gelding looks nice in a thin plastic mouth in hand youngstock bit which has brass rings to match the buckling on the bridle

Best wishes for continued successes during the 2010 show season.... enjoy

Thanks all

There is a show cane hiding there somewhere but you can't see it on the picture.

BabsR - thanks for the comments on the colour scheme, I've let Kezza know as she chose it. I know what you mean about the hat - modern hats just make you look like an egg head For his first one I chose safety over style as although I've done a fair bit of homework with him, I didn't know how he would react and I didn't particularly want a babypony attached to my head, but we'll review it for next time. Would we actually get marked down as not being correct for having an 'egg head' hat or is it just a question of not wanting to stick out as too different from the other handlers?

Think your headgear is OK for Riding Club Level...but at bigger shows it would indicate to the Judge that you are a novice exhibitor and as such, may go against you, though I know it should not!!

So best do as others do if you exhibit at bigger shows

Love you Boy and good luck
