Any ideas welcomed...I called the vet out to my 14 year old purebred mare yesterday as she's been very lethargic the last few days and not wanted her usual carrots after her feed.I thought one side of her face was slightly swollen so asked the vet to check her teeth but no sign of absess or any other problems. She was given antibiotics and danilon plus a blood sample which first results showed the low white blood cell count. She didn't have a temperature either. She has been stamping her hind feet hard on the ground but not in a colicy way, more in temper although she is still sweet to us and not any bother for the vet. There were no signs of any skin irritation on the legs. She looks depressed and didnt even come when i called this morning,I had to go and catch her for her breakfast.Don't know what to think. She had a slight bloody discharge from her nostril this morning too.I wonder if she might have bashed her head against something? Your ideas greatly appreciated.

Could she have picked up a virus? A low white blood count usually means they have a virus doesnt it??? amongst other things I should imagine, but if she has had a runny nose it could explain.

When my lad is feeling unwell, even slilghtly unwell he goes right of his food unlike his mother who would eat for England even if she was ill.
