How lovely to see Kubinec strutting his stuff!!!
There is something very special about him - he is the king
I have been inspired by this thread to upload to Flickr all the photos I have of the mares and stallions in the Russian Stud book, vol I. You can see them here
http://www.flickr.com/photos/23462550@N00/sets/72157603887881548/
and here
http://www.flickr.com/photos/23462550@N00/sets/72157603883442528/
If any of you guys have photos of horses in the stud book (vol I) that are not in my collection, you would be doing me a great favour by emailing them to me. I will then add them to the set.
I am sorry to say that they are not all in alphabetical order - I haven't figured out how to do that in flickr yet.
A little taste of the past:
Oaza - I think she looks stunning by any standard
Ikwa - this mare raced 6 times and won 6 1sts!!
Aswan - I know you've seen him before but this is a really nice pic
Mak by Korej - quite an athlete!

Anfi, I'm sure I remember Manuskript from the Tersk Holland sale as a youngster - was impressed with him then and hasn't he grown into a fantastic horse. Lucky you Juliane
Sally, I'm sure you've seen these before but thought it would be nice to show some of Plumbum in his younger days BTW did you go back to Page 14 to see his mum

Another boy who's grown into a nice boy

Hi Jude - you are a very busy lady putting all the pics up - the ones you are showing here of Plum at the sale are when he had just come out of racing training so he looked a little slender! It is hard to believe what he has grown into. Yes did check out 14 thank you - much appreciated. I was hoping to see one of her (pantomima)standing or posing but alas like you, the ones I have are all with foals - she has had about 14 of them and many I have to say have gone on to be champs! |

I thought you might like to see some picture of where our Tersk bred horses came from When you look at how they are bred, reared and spend their early years you come to realise their strength and determine character Remember a lot of them then travel up to 8 or 9 days non stop on a transporter to hopefully a new and happy life
the round building is the stallion barn

So come on who do you recognise |

Jude I love the Tersk photos, they are beautiful! Especially the 4th one down of the crowded herd and the one a bit lower at the water trough! I would like a print of those! |

Juliane - he is certainly gorgeous
One question - on allbreed he is Manuscript with a 'c' - is that an error?
Jude - those pics render me speechless!! I have seen most of them before, but every time I look at them my soul yearns to be there!! As if some level of my mind recognizes this place as home?! I bet a lot of horsey people feel the same thing.
As for who we recognize???? My only guess would be that the grey horse with rider (on the slope/ mountain side) could be Aswan?

THANKS to Robbie and Jude for all these great pictures!
Anfi - the way you describe Tersk is also the way I feel. When someone ask me, where I would travel if I could just go whereever I want, I tell them Russia. People who knows my passion for the russian arabian are not surprised, but other just look at me like "You must be out of your mind". But I am not! This is the place I want to go to
I know the horses at Tersk (our horses ) and I know they do not live the luxury life our horses do, but I still would like to go on a "little" holiday in Caucasus

Thanks for those Tersk pics Jude. They gave me goosebumps knowing that's where Po was bred and spent the first two years of her life. Maybe she was in that herd! Unlikely I know...but it's a nice thought.. I too would love to visit...maybe one day..
As for the transportation from Russia...I believe Po sustained her horrible injuries either during or unloading from that long, arduous journey. But credit to her character it doesn't stop her loading and travelling today.

Thanks for the photos of Topol - what an athletic and powerful sort! Not the weedy, fine legged horse a lot of my non-arab friends dismiss all arabs as being. He looks comparable in stature to any modern sports horse.
This might be a long shot but any photos of my lad's maternal grand mother Pastoral? She was bred at Tersk, had a successful racing career and as well as my lad's dam also foaled Pastor winner of the Russian Derby and 200 Guineas. Actually any photos of Pastor would be great too! |

For Janet, here's a pic of Piligrim (Balaton - Popova) I took a couple of years ago.

The Balatons I have worked with, although not very many have all been delightfully straightforward horses to deal with. The first was Sarah Kelleway's very successful racehorse Tibet (ex Taiga), a big grey giant of a horse he moonlighted from his proper career as a racehorse to come to Paris where he was second in his class. Tibet was the first Tersk bred horse I got to know and he was a good advert for them. The second was Akbura (ex Amunitia) a wonderful personality who was one of the most relentlessly cheerful horses I ever met as well as being the most powerful moving. Third was Pili's sister Pjatakova, who like him is a lovely structured horse with an uncomplicated personality. I also showed three or four Balatons at the St Petersburg show, all of whom were male; not very trained, and showing in a tiny cramped indoor arena with a huge crowd and they were all quite civilised.

The pic of Gomel in-hand - is it Robbie or Jan at the end of the lead rein, i'm thinking its Jan
Emma, I saw a dvd at Jan's of you and Jan handling at the St. Petersburg show, some nice horses, I always get these two colts mixed up - did you handle Horunzhy or was it Jan, ive forgotten the name of the other colt?
Looking at the Tersk herd you could be forgiven for wondering how they manage to tell them all apart |
