I only wanted to share this lovely picture of Margerate who owns Riversedge Mona Lisa. Margerate showed this mare herself in a strong large class of ten.
Margerate, not being in the first flush of youth, put a lot to shame with her gentle handling and her effort to 'have a go'.
She came 3rd today.
Margerate lost her husband earlier this year. I hope dear Les was looking down at you both.

I took photo's of most in-hand horses today. The light in the school was not good, hence no photograper. If you e.mail me on stockdalear@aol I can send you a pic. (I hope!)
Please don't ask me to post them all on here, it takes forever and gives me a headache.....literally!!
ps.
Debbie, your son did and excellent job today, he got a 3rd first show!! you must be so proud.

The SWG Arab Spring show was a lovely day with some really beautiful horses. I am so delighted to see the photo of Mona Lisa & Margaret - as Sue said they were 3rd in the Purebred Mares 4yrs & over, but Lisa then went onto win the Amateur Handler class with a lovely lady who had never been in the ring before today !!! Lisa also was second in the SWG Members class again showed by Margaret so Well Done!! you made me very proud as I used to own Lisa and it was Margaret's partner dear Les Hutchings who bought her from me approx 7yrs ago, I also have a special interest in Lisa and her achievements as she's out of my lovely veteran mare Ormmal (who has just been scanned in foal - yippee !!!!!!!!)
It really was a day for A.V. Montoya stock with Amanda Holloway's stunning grey filly taking the Yearling class & The Championship! well done Amanda, another Monty baby was Debbie Alderson's chestnut filly in 3rd place shown beautifully by Oliver, Debbie's son and then in 5th place Shustar a smart bay colt by Montoya shown by his owner Scarlett, so all in all a good Montoya day (You can tell I'm a fan) Only one AA/PB came forward in the 1/2/3yr old class which is a great shame, with all the conversations about PB/AA you'd think there would be a lot more in the ring, however it was a smart bay filly Halliesaire owned by J Bates/bred by Gloria Ayub that took the rosette & the AA/PB championship as there were no entries in the 4yrs & over class - big disappointment - WHERE WERE YOU ALL?
The ridden classes were quite well supported - I really fell in love with Susan George's truly beautiful bay mare by Esteem (I'm ashamed to say I can't remember her name as I left my catalogue at the show ) she won her class & was Res. Ch. with Darren Cummings taking the Championship on........ sorry Darren )
Have to say a BIG WELL DONE to Ellis Carden, (Dominic & Linda's daughter from Cotswold Arabians) who showed her PB pony mare (Magic) to first place, only 2 in that class but nevertheless a nice class to watch, both horses were beautifully turned out. Ellis is only 10yrs old & looked a real smartie pants
So all in all it was a really lovely day out and the sun was shining ALL DAY.

I was there with my Anglo-Arabian mare! But we were in the ridden classes. It was our first ever show and we cam second (out of 2!!!) in the novice ridden class, but we won the amateur produced class. I thought the judge was extremely helpful. I also thought it a shame that there weren't more anglos taking part. My mare is 5yrs old and I bought her as a 2 year old from Finn Guiness. She's by his stallion 'Sysirinchium'. She's called Sal Volatile (pronounced Vol-a-til-ee). This is an old fashioned word for 'smelling salts'. However, the mare is more inclined to be volatile!! Lovely weather. The venue was a bit of a health and safety risk. |

dartmoorskier, Are you talking about the little racing cars? We used them as an educational aid and took our yearling to watch. She was fascinated and sulked when they finished racing.

Hi Dartmoorskier - yes I was watching you in the ridden class and as I stated in my previous post I thought both horse/pony & their riders were exceptionally well turned out and good on you for winning the amateur produced class too
I liked your mare and now I know why - she's by Sysirinchium !! Hadn't got my catalogue to hand when you were in the ring I have a lovely boy who is half brother to Sysirinchium - he's Sahir Omah & is the first & fourth photo on my sig pic, obviously by Dhruv. Will you be showing at Bicton this summer - now that really is a superb location, no H&S risk there

Hi Sue and Elaine and all
I'll let Chloe (Norman) know that this is on here with the piccie of her filly (otherwise known as Pumpkin!!). She is absolutely STUNNING - you should see the head close up. Her mother is the same - absolutely gorgeous head and neck, but does not compromise in body and has proper substance and is WELL capable of being ridden. I LOVED her when I saw her down at Chloe's. Chloe has another lovely little AK filly that was shown last week at Wessex Spring. It was Pumpkin's first trip out today, so did very well with it all and I know Chloe was very pleased indeed.
Amanda's filly looked fab and showed superbly. It will be great to see how these two do throughout the season and isn't it nice to see such quality fillies being bred in the UK? Lets hope they stay here!! ;) |

Well said Mary !! Indeed, let's hope they do stay in the UK, we breed some of the best Arabians - LET NOBODY FORGET THAT - we just don't promote them the way some other countries i.e. USA/Germany promote their horses, doesn't mean that their stock is better than ours, just that we hear/see more about them !!
(I can feel a heated discussion coming on ) I should add that I'm now drinking my 3rd glass of white wine

Sahir - ah Dhruv - one of my all time favourites - produced some exceptional endurance horses. Biddesden have some wonderful part-breds. You can stand in the field and shut your eyes and point and still pick up a great horse. I look forward to seeing yours.
SueB - A friend of mine won an earlier in-hand class - HS Emilio - 5 year old gelding - would you have a photo of him? |

Sorry I couldn't get there - my Land Rover is still at the garage getting mended - he was trying desperately to get it finished in time - but then something else fell apart on it. My PBA Palomino 3 year old is looking stunning as well - and she did very well last year at the show - I was gutted. |

Oh dear, I'm so sorry, no I didn't get any other pics. I only went to watch for the first part in the morning.
The photographer they had lined up didn't go as he said the light was too dark in the school . If you were lucky the sun shone through the rafters just in the right place!!
Please contact the SWG for any other in-hand pics as they have them all now. (Jenny Morris) |
