Hi - I have found myself in the possesion of a very pretty little chestnut mare, Dedja des Forges x Faery Wand, I have researched this a little bit and she certainly appears to have good breeding, but I really am not familiar enough with Arabs to really know what I have. How do I find out what sort of Arab she is, ie Crabbett lines, egyptian etc. I am looking to sellher in the Spring and really want to get the best price possible for the best home possible. I think the more I know about her, the better I will do for her. Can anyone help?
thanks

Hi Dawn,
Could you tell me how hold your mare is, and her name please? She is probably bred at Conkwell Grange stud close to Bath, wiltshire. I used to work there yr 2000-2001, Feary wand was a mare very close to my heart, and my all time favourite at the large stud! I recently heard she has passed away, which is very sad. She was very beautiful and had some very nice offspring. She had a little filly foal when I was there that I really fell in love with and missed terribly when I left. I do have photos but they are in the UK and Im in Saudi... I have photos of Dedja as well. He was one of the breeding stallions (there were 7) and he was a bit of a character. He was a very successfull racehorse, and has sired several winners. I am sure if you write a msg on the racing thread you will get allot of info, as these lines are very well known in the racing. Dedja as far as I know is french, feary wand I believe is russian. Feary wand to me was a lot more show-horse looking than racehorse looking, very tall and elegant, and she passed this on to her offspring. Dedja was a big bold stallion, very french arab looking, so I believe you when you say your mare is pretty, should be a lovely mix of the two!
If she was bred at Conkwell, she was bred by Liz Harrington. Conkwell as far as I know is not there anymore, but i believe Liz is now with Larkinglass racing, google it and you will find their website with a number for her. She can tell you more about her pedigree etc.
Best of luck with your mare, would love to see some photos!
Regards,
Tove |

Welcome to AL Dawn; I don't know anything about you mare's breeding but I'd say you're on the right site to be selling her. AL is getting attention not just from the UK but Europe for sales, as you'll see from the sales pages.
Do you ride her? Pictures would be great. |

Hi Malak, thanks for replying, yes she was definitely bred from Conkwell Grange and when I first got her I tried to contact the breeder but as you say Liz is no longer at Conkwell Grange and I didn't have any luck in tracing her, all the phone numbers on Sami's passport were unobtainable. Her passport name is Spasiba (which I don't think is very pretty) Her stable name when I bought her was Pinky??? Don't know if any of those names ring a bell with you. I have changed her name completely and called her Samirah (I looked it up it means 'Lady who entertains')- She is 7 rising 8 so probably would have been born when you working there. She is now 14.3hh chestnut with 3 White stockings and has a touch of roan, particularly on her rump. She is absolutely chilled, nothing much fazes her. When I bought her I was told that she was unrideable but after I had her back and teeth done, she has been ridden virtually daily without any problems at all. She does have a bit of an issue with throwing her head about but even that is reducing with the schooling, she is now coming down really nicely into an outline and we are even thinking of doing some prelim dressage with her later this month. It would be really lovely if she is a filly that you knew. I haven't any nice photos of her at all at the moment they are nearly all spoilt by the weather and rugs, but as soon as I do and I work out how to get the photos on the site I will put one on. Hiya Dawn,
If its the same Spasiba, then this mare raced as a four year old back in 2005, I remember watching her and thinking how pretty she looked! You could always include the fact that she has been raced when you come to advertise her. Best of luck, I bet shes a real poppet :)

What a lovely thread to read. I thinks its wonderful that all these people out there know these horses. Imagine, if somebody had been thinking about this mare all this time and was then able to get her back. I am so glad you posted your question, and it is absolutely right that this is the best place to find her the best home. Good luck to you, and I am so pleased to hear of somebody that cares enough to go the extra mile and find out information that will lead to the right placing when they come to sell. Good for You ! |
