 Drat my usual tricks are not working i am going to have to syringe bute into Baz (he will not even take danillon)Got a 50ml syringe how much liquid should i use and just water? |

May sound like a daft question, but did you mix the jam & bute up? I tried it first just pouring the jam onto the bute in a buttie...PAH!! "She's trying to poison me" cue half chewed mush rubbed down my arm 
Second time I had a good old dollop of strawberry jam in a container and mixed the bute in really well, that had the little  fooled. Get the cheap stuff too, more sugar content

Vet had to come tonight his cheek and jaw all swollen, he is now on antibiotic powder the one begining with N which he takes no probs in feed bute 2 a day and another antibiotic tablet 20 pills morning and night, i have now become a syringe queen Again thanks so much for all your tips although gutted he refused a jam and bute slice of bread with mandolin thin cuts of carrot on top this morning tell ya Heston move over it looked that good |

Might be worth trying icing sugar as you can make the paste fairly stiff and then it's more apt to go where you wanted it instead of flying around. I feel your pain - worming 16hh going on 19hh is a nightmare after Garnet was so easy for everything, but at least he has learned to eat Danilon in his grub. |

one teaspoonful of Jam is good as long as you dont get more on you than them.
used to worm the foals this same way. they almost liked it..

TIP...wet wipes are great for removing yogurt bute mix off your horses head and head collar his belly my hands and leg oh and the wall mission failed...jam butty route again in the morning |

My old TBx used to eat Bute in jam sandwiches but neither Roger nor Chips will.
Cheap strawberry jam mixed with Bute and syringed is the way to go for mine!
Hint: If you worm with Strongid, save the syringes as they come in really handy for just such a situation!

Thanks for all the tips, tried jam buttys yuck(freak horse),last time he was good with a bit of bran made damp with hot treacle water, i do despair sometimes  He is fine just got a nasty gash on his inside cheek bone area |

Kazzy I should have remembered the non lumpy apple sauce theory, I did try with the lumpy one first without thinking, I cant do liquid either as it ends up all over me most of the time. |

Chewy always takes his medecine in a jam sandwich but when he was endoscoped a couple of years ago he didn't eat for days, I guess he was really sore, so had to resort to syringing it mixed in with baby food - like Gail says. Was a bit messy but it did the trick!

I tried the apple sauce thing with mine and it worked!! I got mine from Asda the really cheap stuff thats just sauce and has no lumps in it at all and it stuck to his mouth so he couldnt spit it out!!
If I put in liquid he just spits it out everywhere
Someone told me try Yakult aswell that works apparently!!

Hiya,
I always use pure fruit baby food and mix with Bute. Always works and he doesn't mind too much, just won't eat it in feeds if he is in one of his sensitive phases. Fortunately taking it in his feeds at he moment.

Yoghurt is good, even double Elmlea for 1 foal here!, or icing sugar - you might need to slice the end off syring (or use a dosing syringe) to make sure it will flow out. Danilon is big granules. Only need a small ammount to make a tacky paste. Hope he hasn't done anything silly!

I mix to a fairly stiff paste with a bit of icing sugar and water - add the water slowly; you'll be surprised how little it takes. I cut the end off the syringe, spoon the paste in and then shoot it in like a wormer. |

Apple sauce mixed with bute or a jam sandwich if he will eat bread one of mine wont so have to syringe. |

Enema tip syringe & molasses/bute mix works well. Unfortunately bute isn't water soluble & forms a suspension (Equipalazone form - haven't tried others)

Angel Delight or Fat Free Natural Yoghurt is best as it's a bit thicker and less likely to be spat out (sort of sticks to the tongue)... one tablespoon of yoghurt mized with the Danillon should do it |
