Posted - 15 Dec 2009 : 5:03:44 PM Apologies if this subject has already been covered. I was wondering if I would be too heavy for my lad?? I weigh about 11st at the mo, down form 12st4!!!!! My new lad is only 14'3 at the mo, but hopefully has a little bit more growing to do (he's 41/2) What weight should I aim for??? Being realistic I would think 10.5 would be about the lowest I'll go. Am I too heavy for endurance?? |

Posted - 15 Dec 2009 : 10:47:55 PM hi to all and t hanks for the lovely welcome. I intend to back him in early spring and then just take it really slowly. I don't want or need to rush him. If anyone needs crew and are in the south west area then let me know. I would love the experience. Jenny |

Posted - 15 Dec 2009 : 8:55:13 PM Provided that he has the strength and fitness (just bearing in mind that 4 and a half is still quite young for an arab) then 11 st should not be too heavy, after all those competing at top level fei have to carry 75 kilos minimum (rider and saddle). |

Posted - 15 Dec 2009 : 6:27:15 PM Hi Dizzymare,
I weigh 11 stone and my youngster is also 4 1/2 and 14.3hh. He carries me no problem and is still going strong at the end of our hacks.
I asked the same question sometime ago.
I ride every other day for about an hour at a time. We recently did a 10 mile ride at Thetford Forest and he was really good. He wasn't tired at all.
I can feel him getting stronger all the time and i'm sure when he is 5 - 51/2 he will carry my weight no problem if i want to ride him 5 or 6 times a week.
Hope this helps. |

Posted - 15 Dec 2009 : 6:09:49 PM He should be able to cope with 10.5 stone fine when he is mature, and probably your current weight. This topic has been covered sometime earlier this year, if you go to the search AL option at the top and tick the archive box as well when you search, you should get all the previous threads - by the way welcome to AL |
