Posted - 14 Apr 2010 : 11:35:54 PM Can anyone remember reference to any early Arabians ( or more recent) that are Chestnut and have random white spots. Any info or reference please.
----------------------------- White Body Splashes, white Blazes + chin etc.etc. and legs. etc.etc.
Some of the early Arabains, especially chestnuts have recorded aditional white marking in the early stud books (Vol.II).
Someone has added sabino to the allbreeds for some arabs, with whole body colour ( Chestnuts) and with no body splashes, just white legs and face and under chin markings. Is this really Sabino...or do they need to have body markings/splashes too, to be Sabino.???
I'd also like to have any info of Chestnuts with white body splashes, please. Especially any that run in breeding lines.( from the early lines).
Thanks Very Much in advance.. Interesting subject.
Clutha love your colt. ( I have a 3/4 TB Chestnut & White mare). Cheers Sue |

Posted - 28 Oct 2010 : 3:05:33 PM Thank you we think he's pretty special too. Can't believe the years have gone by so quickly, just hope we have him for many more yet.The dam of Kismet is A.K.Kastana who is also dam of Crusader but also passed on a fair amount of white. The dam of the colt is Atmosfera who is by Fadlak out of Kapraslina who is also by Kapron.Atmosfera is 21 now.She has quite a lot of grey hair in her coat so I suppose this foal has had the "white" from both sides. She has had five foals and has earned her retirement. |

Posted - 15 Jul 2010 : 4:36:17 PM Sorry I cant answer your question. I guess the spots came from the sire's side...as many of the ponies on the dams side are coming up GREY. Also, look at C C Berwynfa... and go back to Dyoll Starlight as there is quite a few Arabians creaping in there..SAHARA (at least twice) and the Crawshaw Arabian..so your horse has more than Welsh in his Welsh breeding.. DYOLL ( is Lloyd spelt backwards). Has some of the earliest Arabains turned out with the Welsh ponies gooing back to the 1840's.

Posted - 15 Jul 2010 : 10:19:54 AM 'H' has developed 4 more spots this year, and they are bigger than the first 2. Does that happen or might it be something else? She has the white patch on lower lip, she 50% arab - http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/nivsrych+crystal+ballerina
Is it normal to develop more spots? |

Posted - 28 May 2010 : 9:49:45 PM The info I have on birdcatcher spots did not come from a single source, it's stuff I've learned from various people (and own observations) over the years. I have a good friend who is a highly regarded amateur equine colour genetic researcher, and she usually gets hold of everything published by academics in the field. The best single book on the subject is 'Equine Color Genetics' by Dr Philip Sponenberg - it's not an easy read, but it *is* a good summary of the subject.

Posted - 17 May 2010 : 08:08:06 AM My gelding Taroub, Spearmint and Tamira has a round splash under his belly and has high white on three legs quite unusual marking on one of those legs. Quite big white blaze and sure he has it on lower lip to. I would post pic but i still can never work out how
I also have a H Tobago filly who doesnt have much white, just a very pretty white blaze and one leg
They are both bred along some same lines, he has lots of white but they are both very similar when together. |

Posted - 29 Apr 2010 : 12:13:06 PM I'll take a photo of it, unless there is a way to load a pgf onto here then I could scan it which would be better resolution. Says which stud book at home, will load details on tonight. I also (from same date) have a picture/painting of Azrek & the description of Hadban, no sight/mention of white patches/spots on either so not from thoses lines. |

Posted - 29 Apr 2010 : 10:04:49 AM Got a picture of Mesaoud from an old stud book, bought it as a picture from a guy at the arab racing at Newbury a couple of years ago. says he had a white mark on his chin & a collection of white spots under his 'jowls'. Looking at the picture (which is a painting someone has done of him, very nice), he also seems to have several white spots low down on his left flank. Painting very precise so don't think they would have been put there without intent. |
