REPORT:
A competitive race for THE EMIRATES ARABIAN
APPRENTICE HANDICAP STAKES, a 1m 2f Handicap sponsored
by The Darley Stud Management
Company Ltd, run on the thoroughbred race card at Salisbury
on 9th July 2005.
Eleven runners went to post, including the unbeaten CS
Khamsin, trained by Tony Brunton, and the promising Tarfih from the
Mrs G M Duffield stable.
None proved good enough, however, to beat the
tough and resilient ROCHES DU CAYROU (FR), Owned
and Trained by Mrs
D Thomas, who
has campaigned her seven year old with great success this
season and also supplied the fourth horse to pass the post
in FEDOR
DU BOURNAIS (FR).
Approaching the last furlong it was a wide open race, with
a number of runners looking to be in with a chance of success
but, as they approached the line, it was clear the winner
would come from either Roches Du Cayrou (FR) or
Deolali and as they
passed the post ROCHES DU CAYROU (FR) (ridden
by L Harman) prevailed in a thrilling finish from the strong
challenge
of the Miss Sam Davison trained DEOLALI
(R Kingscote up). Deolali has come back to form
with a vengeance this season and maintained his progress
with a game performance
to be beaten only half
a length by ROCHES DU CAYROU (FR) with TARFIH two
lengths back in third place..
