Maximillion set off five lengths clear of Le Beau and Omar with the others a further 5 lengths back and the tactic nearly won him the race. Omar made up the ground first and challenged from 3 furlongs out but could not go past the leader. L’Enchanteur Du Pre came from much further back and looked well beaten a furlong out but came with a strong burst to get up on the line. El Djem ran on nicely in the straight and Nandi was doing her best work at the finish.

Betting 6/4 Kiwi Passion,2/1 Prussian Duke,Shasta Bree Tarkaan, 7/2 (from 5/1)Chiloe, 10/1 Midnight Call

Midnight Call soon led but ran wide into the straight and was soon overtaken. Kiwi Passion never looked like getting to the front but ran on at the end. Shasta Bree Tarkaan probably doesn’t stay more than a mile and duly ran out of gas 2 furlongs out having been sent into the lead 4 furlongs from home. Chiloe ran another good race this time with a new pilot who coaxed a strong run from her on the inside rail. The easy winner Prussian Duke came to win his race 2 furlongs out but hung right across the track finishing on the stands rail, although he probably had plenty in hand.

Prince Calaf broke down and took little part. Phaymon dominated the race, always prominent and running on well up the stands rail. Afra was held up behind the leaders and had every chance a furlong out but could do no more. Doraman came with his customary late run up the centre of the course but was held by the winner. Floral Dancer came from another County to take fourth close home. Doriket and Starinsky were also noted running on well but never threatened to win. Nicholettah disputed the early lead but ran out of steam whilst Sakit Sura also saw a lot of early daylight and had shot his bolt before the final furlong.

1 HORIZON M Alston 9-4 74(-1)

Time 1m 28

Betting 1 /4 Sanji, 6/4 Horizon

Sanji led throughout, always finding extra whenever challenged and probably had a bit in hand. Horizon never gave up and kept finding more but it was never going to be enough on Sanji’s favoured fast ground. Horizon has stamina in the pedigree and may well be best at distances in excess of a mile and it was no disgrace to give the champion such a good race over 6f. Sanji finishes the season with the record total of 16 AHS pure bred wins for his career and it was announced that he is now to retire at the age of 12.

Georgia Nakita , the automatic top weight and Kelway Amber Light would both have stood a better chance in the earlier 0-85 handicap and they never showed with a chance in this hot contest. There were several hard luck stories. Kelway Crimson Sky lost around 10 lengths at the start and finished well to be only 3 down at the end. Great lady has all her best form on soft ground and did well on this firm surface running on well at the end albeit too late. Hardtoback was 6lbs wrong at the weights but ran his best race ever, disputing the lead until giving way in the final furlong. Tamagotchi again started slowly and then hung across to the far rail when making his run. He would have given the winner a lot to do if keeping straight. Despite all the hard luck stories behind him, Pride of James made all the running and was not stopping at the finish recording his 5th win of the season despite a 2 stone rise in the weights. He has won over all distances from 6f to 2 miles and may still be improving. After the finish he ducked left at the exit from the racecourse giving his rider no chance to stay onboard. Fortunately Brain Boulton was only winded and he bravely remounted to enter the winners enclosure.

Betting 11/10Riverdance,Majestic Omar 4/1 Censation,WFA Faisal

They couldn’t separate them in the betting ring and there was nothing in it on the racecourse as Riverdance and Majestic Omar went head to head over the last half mile of this 2 mile contest. It became a war of attrition in the final furlong and Majestic Omar was getting back up when the post came just in time. Censation ran his best ever race to stay on well but never got on terms. WFA Faisal was a spent force half a mile from home and might be better over a shorter trip.

An amazing finale to the season as this competitive handicap was turned into a procession by Segovia Sunrise forging clear from the 2 furlong marker. Island Star looked to be going well until the winner swept past and ran on for second. Charan El Nefous had every chance whilst Island Rover came to lead 2f out but found nothing extra. WFA Prophecy was the first beaten fully 4 furlongs out and was way below the form at Taunton when landing a gamble. Millenium Ibn Procyon led until the straight but had nothing in reserve when challenged.
