The Fugly blog has an item on the Arabian show scene--in the US obviously. I hope it's okay to post the link since it isn't advertising or anything, if not I am sorry Admin, but I think it's important http://fuglyblog.com/ I makes my blood run cold to hear what is done to these wonderful horses, and it makes me fear for the future of showing in the UK, since so many people in the showing world here seem to copy American fashions. To me the half hogged mane and the ridiculous frozen pose are the thin end of the wedge.

Have been reading about gingering on an American forum... sounds as though it is rife over there. More testing please! I can not believe that people are still doing this to their horses just for a ribbon! Surgery, ginger, coke.... far worse than hogged mane etc.... Someone posted a pic of a trainer in the ring giving his horse a whip...more photo's like that tbe better! Shame them... |

I bet you're right Jean. It will be happening wherever there are humans. Unfortunately I don't think they feel shame and they view money and winning far more important than any horse.

Ditto. Ashamed that these beautiful, intelligent, horses are treated like this. I think more people should name and shame. |

If you click on the "comments" at the bottom of the blog you will find lots of eye witness reports of some of the horrors inflicted on Arabian show horses, and other show horses, by trainers. It is absolutely disgusting. |

Sorry to say, but this is old news. Those of us who keep our eyes open and aren't blinded by slick marketing and glam photos in s****y magazines have known all about this stuff for decades. That is why we are so concerned about anything here in the UK that erodes people's respect for horses as living beings - we don't want to see our lovely Arabians turned into toys for sad people's gratification.
If it is any consolation, it is the MINORITY of Arabian owners in the US who support this behaviour. The MAJORITY are decent people who love their horses and treat them as family. I am lucky that my friends in the US fall squarely into this last category.

Found this on another forum, disciplinary action. See David Boggs is mentioned again. WHAT a surprise...

Boggs again, he has the right name! He was the one who was banned for surgically enhancing horses, totally disgraceful. If he and his family want to surgically enhance themselves, that is their right but to do it to horses who have no say in the matter is disgusting as are the owners who presumably allowed him to have it done and paid for it. They are equally to blame. They should have been banned for life not just a couple of years for him and the owners, as far as I am aware, had no penalties.

It just beggars belief. Wish the penalty also included the trainer and owners got 6-gingerol stuck up their ass.

The whole thing is a disgrace, it makes my blood boil and I feel sick just thinking about what these poor animals go through I think its high time the US took a firm stance against this despicable cruelty, instead of turning a blind eye Shame on them |

I'd use more than ginger, Fee, red hot poker springs to mind! However, the owners are just as much to blame. Would any of you allow him to "surgically enhance" your horse and pay for it? If you would, get off this forum, you are not welcome. It is time ALL those responsible for such acts had a lifetime ban.

And what kind of vet agrees to 'surgically enhance' a horse? Unspeakable, all of it. |

Hi, it seems, as always, to come down to money. One of the posts said her ex-friend sent an Arab to him, it was shown successfully so made a 6 figure sum. Apparently the owner USED to seem to care for her Arabs but stated that now "she wants to sell one for 6 figures every year" so condones the abuse. There are awful stories about how they are never allowed out, have their front legs whipped before they enter the ring so that they "fly" in, etc. I even read one story that someone had a training platform that gave the horse an electric shock when it wasn't posing correctly. Beggars belief doesn't it.
Very sad isn't it, we have Egypt where poverty seems to drive cruelty, and America where money is thrown at people who practise cruelty. I know there are good Egyptians and Americans too, comments not directed at them obviously. |

The problem is our Arab Show scene seem to want to copy the Americans - neck sweats etc are openly advertised and sold. Perhaps if there wasnt a ready market available in our own horse populations it would be a start!
