Rachelle Peel was put on trial for the neglect of her horses. Her husband had been suffering from dementia, she had been working away from home, and the poor horses had fallen into a terrible state. She didn’t deny that.

She was a broken woman, thoroughly ashamed of herself. But one thing she did get right. She wouldn’t stop trying to find out what had happened to the horses that the RSPCA had ‘rescued’. She demanded every document she was legally entitled to see. And then she passed them to me, and I went through them, box after box.

And slowly, unbelievably, what emerged was that 12 horses taken away from her had been shot soon after. But the RSPCA was in court trying to claim thousands of pounds for stabling and caring for those horses. And RSPCA officers were on the stand saying they were alive and well.

I attended the trial and couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I questioned the RSPCA officers outside the court and they again insisted the horses were alive.

They didn’t know that I had the slaughter forms showing each one’s grisly death.

But thankfully The Mail on Sunday did care and ran the story. ‘RSPCA shoots 11 healthy horses’ was the headline, because the 12th horse had been so poorly it couldn’t be described as fit. And in the process of being seized by the RSPCA, the poor thing suffered a broken leg. The brutality that horse encountered in its final hours still haunts me. It was loaded onto a lorry and with the others transported many hours to its place of execution.

I hate the rspca with a passion and wish they did not exist. I hope that you are not trying to defend Rachelle Peel in any way, she knew exactly what she was doing and I hope they lock her away for what she has done although I doubt they will. That woman could of asked for help from lots of people yet she failed to do so no excuse for how she let her animals suffer.

Yes, I saw it on FB but didn't comment for fear of jeopardising appeal/realistic sentencing/whatever is the next stage in the RP farce. To think that Taragun came to that, and when I saw the Daily Mail photo of Sparky (Vlacq Tinwe) I didn't even recognise the smart dun pony I remembered.

Sorry, this is not a true representation of what happened.

"Wonderful treatment of a former WAHO winner and grand little horse , being made to travel with a broken leg??"

Poor Taragun was in a shocking state before she broke her leg. Once Evil, sorry, slip of the finger should have been Evie, moved on to other horses Taragun was tossed aside to rot in the field with the others. There were starving horses shut in a barn tramping over their dead companions and they described this as having "taken her eye off the ball"! Beggars belief. Please don't spare these evil, manipulative people any of your sympathy.

Yes, what the RSPCA did beggars belief but if anyone deserved to go to jail for what they did to animals in their care the Peels did. It was not just dozens of horses but several dogs as well.

Lets put the RP circumstance / excuse into perspective; life throws illness and difficulties in our way all the time. Mr Peel alzhiemers, Evie suspected brain issue???? My partner died from a brain tumour when I was 35, I nursed him for a year and worked as much as I could to keep my job and sanity. I had a young daughter, 3 dogs, cats and my Arab lady. Thier need for care was what kept me going. I am just a normal person who does what's right as so many do.
All involved RP, family, RSPCA more shame on you all for making excuses!

Gosh no! I do apologise if anyone has misinterpreted my original post.
I was horrified and disgusted this morning that the 'reporter' had put a sympathetic slant in the article and seemed to be defending the Peel creature, thus I shared it on here.

Thank you, viola, glad you explained what appeared to be support for those evil creatures. There is no excuse for what they knowingly did. The owners of the farm they rented also suffered from what they did. They left the house in the most disgusting mess. Three large dogs were shut in a tiny pantry lying in their own mess, it was not just on the floor but all up the walls. All the carpets in the house were saturated in urine; when they got possession of the house they had to use a digger (not sure quite what) to get them out as they were so sodden that they weighed a ton and they couldn't move them manually. The stink of the house was terrible. The barns the cows were kept in had not been cleared for years and their fields had not been looked after. They were also victims of the Peels and it has cost them a lot of money to sort out the mess and get their home habitable again.

I have spoken to Pat who's partner owns the farm and they have had a terrible time trying to sort the house and land out. Pat has done memorial stones, she has painted round stones with flowers and the names of our lost horses, and put them at the front of the farm. I cried when she sent me a photo of them; so many of us have shed so many tears over the years. This was not a short term problem; it was a long term systematic neglect of over 40 animals. Mr Peel had been convicted over a field littered with dozens of dead sheep several years previously.

They now have horses on land they own so presumably the neglect will repeat itself.

I would love to write what we all think but good manners stop me from doing so. This is a vile case and they deserve nothing but contempt. Many of us hoped Evil was innocent as she claimed; she was away at college. Well, yes, but she was home at weekend! It also turned out that she had deliberately lied about the horses to their owners (many of the horses were on loan/breeding loan).

Let us all pray that they rot in hell for all eternity.

I second that, Barbara, but cannot believe they have been able to buy land and keep horses again. I also felt the article was sympathetic to the Peels.

Should have been imprisoned and banned from keeping any animal for life. Nothing excuses their behaviour. Do the horses they have belong to them are are they on loan? Presume no one would loan them any horse???

Just to mention that HAPPA have a grey arab gelding called "Happa Noel" who is apparently from the Peel case. I have no idea what his real name is but if anyone's still looking it might be worth contacting them.

'Thank you, viola, glad you explained what appeared to be support for those evil creatures.'
How on earth could anyone in their right mind support such blatant abuse?
I repeat, I only posted the link because I was horrified by the original article....

They should be banned for life and been imprisoned, no excuse for neglect. No shame in asking for help if things in your life get out of hand. To watch on and do nothing to help them in my mind is just pure evil.

Also the RSPCA should be ashamed. Those poor horses. I'm sure they would of got help to rehome and rehabilitate them. Makes my blood boil to think of how they would of suffered. I would never give them a penny ! It used to be people who genuinely love animals running it now it seems they employ people who just want a job not people who love animals.

I think it's so sad that many of the horses pts were ridden horses used to being handled, some had done many years of competing they were quality bred horses they may have been in their teenage years but they could have been re homed easily after a bit of tlc, instead the rspca keep alive young wild badly bred types that cost thousands to get to a stage of being re homed and most of them only ever make companions, if the ahs knew about what had happened they could have tried to help to find homes for them, I would have happily taken in one of the horses until a permanent home was found.

They could have been rehomed EASILY before the RSPCA were involved!!!! We would have driven up from Cornwall and collected Taragun !!! THATS what winds me up!! And others would have done the same!!! Why starve them to near death and death instead????

You are so right Libby - such needless, senseless waste!!! Even after the RSPCA got involved they could surely have traced breeders from paperwork. My Red's uncle Vlacq Tinwe was the unrecognisable pony who was shot out of hand and I think his aunt, a Vlacq broodmare, must have been amongst the corpses. Unspeakable!

Peels shame on you all cruelty beyond belief; RSPCA shame on you for the devastating outcome to the survivors.
Peels should be in prison then banned for life from keeping any animals.
