I cry everytime more and more news come through. I won't post on the thread anymore as I am not personally involved, but shocked to the core. My heart goes out to all involved. I'll do my bit now by emails.

We are all very angry. Doug and Gabi found that their horse, Khoomi, had been saved from the dreadful Peels only to find that he had been shot by order of the RSPCA; BEGGARS BELIEF.

The whole thing is just shocking and heartbreaking from start to finish and we can only pray that there is an inquiry into the RSPCA for letting the owners and horses down in such a huge way. As for the Peels i hope the whole family rot in hell .
Barbara fingers crossed that you are feeling a little better today and wishing you a speedy recovery

When I write flipping I mean another word!!! Flip the Peels...and at the moment flip the RSPCA inspector who authorised this to happen and flip the judge! Is there anywhere we are all getting together to get justice I can join?

There is a contact link on Discussion thread to Sir Edward Garnier. I emailed my support for an enquiry and copied in my MP who has replied already to offer support. If we all do same our voices will be heard.

Here's hoping that a lot of noise is made about this and someone in authority hears. Failed by the monsters who held them in squalor and failed by an organisation disguised as a charity. No justice, it's heartbreaking
Clearly firefighting, pathetic and insulting!!
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/11862369/RSPCA-euthanising-healthy-horses-as-cases-of-neglect-hit-crisis-point.html

I cannot believe people are still defending their actions!! So infuriating, you only need to read the rose tinted comments being made on the Facebook page #128546;

I'm so upset to see how badly the RSPCA handled this case.. Ive often seen the inspectors clearing up the mess that owners dont, dogs handed in that have bitten family members, that should have been taken to the vet and put down by the owners.. or with life limiting health problems they can no longer afford and its not great but somewhere in this case something went very very wrong and I'm heartbroken to think that no one stopped the stupid hand that ordered this to happen ..shocking and flipping horrible!

Everyone in my life brings me happiness, some by arriving others by leaving.

Beyond miserable: I emailed Sir Edward Garnier, but no reply yet. Do "we" i.e.ALiners, think a mass post card protest to H.M. Queen E. would shift along a Public Enquiry into this whole horrible, unfair business? The flippin' charity does have a Royal charter, and H.M does read the Daily/Sunday Mail, and she is a good and knowledgeable horse keeper.
Might be worth the stamp. Think I'll do it anyway.

Firstly can I say to the people who have been involved directly in this case how terribly sorry I am and how impressed I have been with the dignity and restraint you have shown in the public domain in respect of this case. It appears you have all behaved with much more integrity and professionalism than the RSPCA.

In case anyone missed it here is the RSPCAs official response to the criticism it has received over the euthanasia of these horses.

http://www.rspca.org.uk/utilities/statement/0615_2

It clearly states that they were euthanized as there was no realistic chance of rehoming them. It makes no mention of the fact that many of the horses already had owners desperate to reclaim them or the fact that a breed society had made offer of assistance in dealing with and rehoming these horses. Neither does it mention that the majority were extremely valuable well bred animals, sports horses as well as Arabs, and that many people would have given their eye teeth to have had the opportunity of owning them not 'just' as rescues but for their own sake and I imagine several would have had competitive careers in front of them in the eventing world.

A swift look at the RSPCAs rehoming pages for horses shows page after page after page of small/medium coloured cob types mostly for rehoming as companions. It appears the RSPCA believes that these type of equines have a better chance of being rehomed than 'blood' horses. It is clear to me that whoever had overall responsibility for the Peel horses has very little understanding of horses in general or the equine industry or indeed the root cause of the 'current over population crisis' they are spouting about which is the indiscriminate breeding of (primarily but not exclusively) small/medium coloured cob types. Which certainly calls into question the RSPCAs competency to deal with the welfare/cruelty towards horses.

Just to add I think cobs (coloured or otherwise) are fantastic and equally deserving of good homes my point is that unfortunately for coloured cobs they appear to have been particularly subject to indiscriminate breeding and this part of the market appears flooded and so are likely hard to rehome particular animals due to sheer volume. Further those people looking to rehome an Arab/part bred sports horse are unlikely to rehome a coloured cob instead and vice versa.

I am truly shocked at the RSPCAs actions and lack of professionalism in this instance. How they managed to win a court case when it appears they had not even managed to successfully identify the animals involved and trace true ownership (despite I believe being in possession of the passports) beats me. I am disgusted at the RSPCAs complete refusal to work with partner organisations (Arab Horse Society) who had the knowledge and wherewithal to assist. Finally I am saddened beyond belief that the horses which had suffered once at the hands of the Peels were given no opportunity of a second chance and never even offered for re-homing.

I will be copying a large part of this post and using it as template to write to the RSPCA, the MP who is calling for an enquiry, my own MP, the Charities Commission, HM The Queen and anyone else I can think of who might listen to me.

Extremely well put Ali Bali, I am only too happy to put my name to it as well when you send it to all these people, unless you think a number of individual letters would be more effective. I have already written to the MP who is calling for an enquiry.

Whilst we are all very active in contacting MPs etc regarding RSPCA despicable conduct the Peel creature is totally responsible for neglect that put precious horses in a situation that led them into the equally unsafe hands of RSPCA.
Never more apt to say two wrongs don't make anything right.

I hope they are ALL held accountable! They disgust me, the Peel scums and the arrogant despicable RSPCA

I hope all of you who donate regularly to them remove the funds and tell them why. It's the only way they will listen. These big charities are just about looking nice and clean and good to take in the money. They are minted and could easily open many many sanctuaries for horses. This is what they are about. Kill them and save us money. This is not by far the first case of this. This is their practice.

Yes Fee your right they are happy to sit back and let the smaller charities take on the animals while they sit back, its been going on for many years. I used to foster for a cat rescue where we took in cats domestic or feral and had they spayed , chipped, wormed, etc and then rehomed to suitable homes. The feral adults were spayed/castreted, wormed and ear tipped and then released back to where they were trapped if the owner allowed. To raise money to do all this we did jumble sales, bric a brac tables and anything else to help fund and when money ran out it was out of everybodies pockets and no cat was turned away. Time the rspca did what they are supposed to do and help the animals needing help .

Yes people need to realise what these big charities are about ....money and advertising for money.

I once retrieved a baby starling from my cat and phoned the SSPCA. They said they would call but they would be wringing it's neck, even though there was no injury! And yet I took it to a little independent bird sanctuary who kept it until it was able to be released. That was years ago, imagine now? Well, we don't need to imagine, we have all seen what their common practice is.

I think this case has highlighted the arrogance of this charity. A dangerous place to be as hopefully they now realise. That and destroying Arabs, they have underestimated the community they have insulted, hurt and infuriated.

And yet they spend £2000 on saving a gannet!! Why not just send their friend with gun to shoot it - much cheaper. My daughter recently phoned RSPCA regarding a bird of prey that was being kept in a small shed with no windows or ventilation during that spell of hot weather, they never came to our knowledge. Following week phoned rspb, they came next day and result bird now has bigger shed with Windows and ventilation, imo still not suitable for a bird of prey but hey ho what do I know.

Absolutely disgusted by three groups here, the Peel Family, The Judicial System and the RSPCA, none of whom appear to have considered the welfare of these animals. It was not just Arabian Horses, but Thoroughbreds too and cross bred ponies. There is no mention anywhere on any of the reports I have read regarding the dogs who were living in squalor, nor failing to dispose of fallen stock. I know nothing can bring these lovely horses back, and I hope that the dogs were all rehomed and not just PTS (if they were removed - if not, why not?) but this MUST be a wake up call to all concerned, and they must develop robust policies, including co-operation with breed societies rather than just thinking they in isolation know best, to prevent this from ever happening again

The dogs were removed and are said to have been rehomed although we have no proof of that. The Peels had some rare Crabbets and some Cleveland Bays, very rare now, a real tragedy for such precious horses to be lost forever. Can we all be circumspect again; no further comment at the moment.

THANK YOU

This whole business has shocked me as I thought until recently the RSPCA had improved. Many years ago I had reason to ask them to check some dehydrated and half starved horses with 'arabian slippers feet'. One of them was heavily in foal and was bagged up. They called me and said a vet had been to see them and the mare was not in foal and that I was obviously used to quality horses which these were not. I was so incensed that I contacted HAPPA who went out and managed to rescue them with the mare and 'foal'.

My second encounter was recently and was told to ring for information on the horse I reported. This I duly did but could not get past the people asking for donations. I was phoned everyday for nearly a month before I lost my temper and then the calls stopped. I still cannot find out what happened to the horse.

I have since discovered numerous people who will not donate to them anymore because of their actions or lack of action.

Is anyone any further forward with challenging the RSPCA? Not just with this crime but the many crimes they commit due to deliberate failure to assist animals in danger and distress. This is their job! Can you imagine if we were responding in our jobs in such a way!? These big charities and industries are a law unto themselves.

Writing to my MP was a waste of time, can't remember the exact words but basically it was thanks for your letter....went on the fire.
RSPCA are shameful, sadly I don't think they will change anytime soon.
