Our swallows arrived back in South Yorkshire this morning. They swooped in the barn over my head as I returned from my ride about 9 am. Brilliant

Thats fabulous news. No swallows yet in Bingley West Yorks but they must only be days away. Out walking with grandchildren today we saw a lot of toads around the pond all very healthy and doing what toads do at this time of year so all good.
I have House Martin nest on my burglar alarm box that is used every year so fingers crossed they return.

We have Lapwings, Curlews and Pied Wagtails back but no Swallows, House Martins or Cuckoos yet. Saw our first Butterfly at the weekend then today a Ladybird, loads of baby bunnies , sadly 4 less as the cat got them .Today we have been plagued by black flying bugs
Oh and bees out now

I'm sure a swallow shot into my stable corridor this morning and nearly decapitated me! Pond has been full of frogspawn for about a week and there are bees the size of flying hamsters. And ponies are having their first night out naked! Yippeeeee, it's spring!

I have seen many big healthy bees in my garden and at farm in West Yorks. That's great news as I think they were struggling.

Swallows arrived this evening.... It's official then.!
See lots of giant bumble bees, butterflies over the last 10 days or so.
Wagtails been here for ages, they stupidly nest in the none Flint part of the Flint barn.... Just at border terrorist nose level, so do the tits!
What a fabulous day it's been, sleeveless all day, until about 630!
Just having a glass of vino on the patio! :)
Long may it continue.... Please.

I came home to a lawn full of feathers this morning after riding out, my first thought was 'pigeon', but the feathers were the wrong colour, second thought was 'magpie', but the feathers looked too small. Tonight 3 swallows swooped past my head as I brought the horses in. I've got a horrible feeling there should have been four.....

no swallows for me yet (warwickshire) and if the past few yrs are anything to go by I doubt I will ever hear another cuckoo around here.
I do have a broody pekin hen on some fertile bantam eggs though.
AND two foals to look forward to... a mini pony (due June) and a part bred arab (due early July)
I cant wait for the swallows... love them

We have had one turn up in our big fields which are away from the house, we put a big shed up there a few years ago and it soon had Swallows nesting inside, he/she was chattering away in the tree this morning, i hope their pal turns up. We have another turned up at home today so they are slowly coming home, love hearing them

Our swallows have started coming into the buildings to repair the old nests. It always seems a shame that after nice weather they have to put up with this cold spell. I am remembering to leave puddles to make some mud.

We still only have 4 Swallows at home and 3 Swallows in our shed, no House Martins yet either :(. House Sparrows are happily feeding their families and the Cuckoo can be heard about 6.30am , also heard a Cuckoo in our big fields which are 3.5 miles from the house. I hope we get more Swallows back as we normally have lots here .

Swallows are back and nesting in their usual place in my stable. Wren has laid four tiny eggs in her small but beautiful nest in our covered water tap. We have 10 ducklings on the stream at the bottom of the field.

Swallows are doing well and I have a nest in my stable this year. Ari is out 24/7 apart from when I ride so it's amazing to me how they just carry on with their busy lives when we are in "their" stable.
Really lucky to see Barn Owl several times last week flying out of owl box.

Our swallows are in full flow they nearly took my nose off yesterday on fly pass! They seem to have a lot of 'committee' meetings too that get very heated!

We have had quite a few more come home over the weekend, getting busy out there now nothing nicer than hearing them twittering away in the stables . Downside is horses are getting used for target practice one of them even had bird poo on her legs
