What a great day job for a Newfoundland and horsepower is a much quieter and Eco friendly way to collect rubbish. I am getting very used to great weather here this summer so maybe the answer for me is a Newfoundland working pal, sack the day job and move to the Med. Ari Arab will just have get a grip and do a couple of hours on the bins each day. |

When I was very young the seven grey Shires who pulled the council dustcarts were turned out in the field at the back of our house and they were my first experience of horses and inspired a lifelong obsession! |

Ari: I think I can speak for Ari Arab, born of the south wind, son of the desert, descendant of centuries of Bedouin war horses, companion of sheikhs ..... oops, sorry, getting a bit carried away. Anyway, I reckon he would say "I think NOT!" |

You might be right; Red did a cracking job with his gig and exercise vehicle (in sig pics) but he might have drawn the line at a dustcart!!

Diana you are so right and your description of his self opinion is spot on. If horses ate grapes I would be peeling them whilst operating a palm branch with my feet to keep the flies off him.... He's so worth it, I get so much more back. Garnet like you I wasn't born into horses but my Dad was a HGV driver at Tetley's brewery in Leeds and often took the working Shires to shows. That's where I caught the horse bug and one of the dray drivers was married to a girl that loved and bred Arabs so what could I do at 12 yrs old but fall totally in love. |

Ari, what a great introduction to the horse world! I love to see the heavy horses at shows, and knowing how long it takes me to get one hairy cob ready, I can't imagine how they get it all done! |

I still cry every time I see a tradesman turnout or Shires. The Tetley's horses were stabled in the centre of Leeds but boy were they looked after, had their own resident farrier and the best of everything available at the time. |
