Hi I am trying to sell my arab Harlequins Surprise and I am being asked if he is Crabbet, Polish etc. I have had a look at his pedigree but am none the wiser. Can anyone tell me how I would find out please.

If you go to allbreedpedigree.com and type in his name you will get his breeding (have you already seen it?) and go to "Reports" at the top left the last option is "Photos" and you will see photos of his ancestors. On his sires side he is a great grandsire of Ben Rabba, a wonderful Crabett stallion. He came to UK from America for a couple of seasons but wasn't widely used; he was an older horse then but I think with hindsight many people wished they had used him. He was a lovely old horse and I had a granddaughter of his, sadly one of the "lost ones" in the Peel case. She was a gorgeous little mare. His sire's dam line is Polish.

On his dam's side the sire's sire line is old English/Crabett and the sire's dam line is Polish (Wasel Gerwazy) and English and his Dam's dam line is English (not sure which are Crabett) with one line to straight Egyptian (the Shah))

Interestingly, I had a gelding by Wasel Gerwazy, if you look up the post about Malanta you will see some info about him. I am hoping to find some nice photos of him (although nice photos taken by me are as rare as hens teeth) as I promised to post some. I have had to trawl through the boxes in the loft and am now looking through the millions of photos as it was in the days before we had digital cameras, computers etc.

Hope that helps. He has some really lovely horses in his pedigree, I am sure he is a wonderful horse with a lovely temperament.

Barbara

Shazani's Princess (his dam) is 82.11% Crabbet. The Shah was the first Babson stallion exported from the USA. On his sire's side Ben Rabba was 57.72% Crabbet, Sunlea Golden Hannah was 100% Crabbet, So Sunlea Roheuyn was 78.86% Crabbet, Lieselotte was 14.07% Crabbet, so his sire Rohirrim Lightfoot is 46.46% Crabbet, which means Harlequin's Surprise is 64.29% Crabbet (plus all of the things described in the various posts above ). I would add the proviso that I have calculated the percentage based on the information available on allbreedpedigree - if there is an error there than it will be reflected in the percentage I have given for your boy. However hopefully this will give you some of the answers to people's queries.
