Didn't think Geldings did that, but he did, even bounced off his tummy a couple of times. For a small chap, its rather substantial.
Don't know what to think about that, except that it was his birthday, so if he going to do it was a nice birthday treat for him I guess.

| Phew, fairly normal then, was a bit worried. He was surrounded by 3 beautiful mares thou, so I guess if its possible, that was the time to do it. :) |

That was quite the comeback Pop! 
My geldings have it sometimes (especially in the company of a pretty mare).I have known and personally witnessed geldings having proper fun with mares.A pony at one of the previous yards I was at regularly did it with the two pony mares that shared paddock with him,much to everyone's satisfaction.
Completely off topic but isn't it time to take the elves and Santas out of the smile list? |

I have to laugh as my geldings always 'let it all hang out' when they see me. Try explaining that to children! |

| It's normal for a gelding to get a erection from time to time but they don't do anything about it, covering is learnt behaviour, so if they have done it in the past! So a gelding that goes all the way, have covered a mare before gelding. |

Both my boys do it. My youngster gets very giddy if I scratch his tummy!  Also the first summer I got him he mounted my old boy Jamil, the look of horror on Jamils face before he cantered off was priceless. Young lad was firmly told off and never tried again.  |

My boys both get them; Sam particularly when I brush him. Red used to give his girlfriend a proper seeing-to when she wasn't in foal - described as 'up to the hilt' when first reported to me. Her owner didn't mind so I didn't either and it was useful on the occasion when Red told us that she needed a return visit to a proper man! I'm sure he thought her foals were his! It was a different thing when I found a gelding showing Garnet a good time - I was absolutely shocked; partly because my little darling was getting up to such things and partly because I didn't realise until then that geldings could!  |

My gelding does it every time he is fed. At the risk of over-sharing information it is useful as I can give it all a quick check.
My old gelding was dreadful he actually covered mares - his last attempt was made at age 36 - impressive enough in itself but I happened to be long-reining him at the time - a Welsh pony (who could resist a Welsh pony) went past and we were off. Outrageous behaviour. |

I've never seen Chips do it, but Rog occasionally gets an erection after exercise after his tack is removed...it is never related to grooming. My old TBx Shiloh used to "let it all hang out" but not erect when I used to scratch between his back legs - very handy for cleaning purposes.

Well Billys episode seems quite normal.
Knew it was a good idea to ask on here. I was wondering, and then i though, yea AL'ers, they will know all about erections   |
