Hi,
Well i have my first ridden showing class at the weekend and am starting to get nervous now! My horse is still green although always very sensible. I would feel fine if it was a dressage but not having been showing its the not being so sure what will happen. This is a general worry but with a few questions!
On the plus side horse is going well, he is still not fully established on the flat and can be inconsistent with the contact and still sometimes gets the wrong leg in canter. That said he went out last week to a local dressage and won his prelim with 70% so when he is on form its really coming together and i was thrilled with him.
I have entered him for the prenovice and the novice, am a bit worried about doing two classes as he is not that fit but i want a chance to ride him in the ring and make sure he is settled before having a judge ride him (and i thought i can always pull him out the novice if he is very unsettled but if he is good i would like a judge to ride him). To practice i have had other people ride him (he didn't care) and at the dressage warm up i had him working in front and behind other horses- again he was fine. I have bought cards for the BAHPAC and BACS as although i don't think i have a hope of qualifying i figured i would be more upset if by some miracle i did and hadn't bought the them!
Right so turnout- he has brown tack with a vsd saddle, velvet browband and close fitting fleece numnah (all good i think) however his reins are rubber and i don't want to buy more in case this is the only show we do. Also his stirrups are the mountain horse safety ones so a bit chunky but i wont change these just in case and finally i wanted to buy him a white girth but strangely this seems to be impossible at all the local tack shops and i am not sure i will be able to order one in time. If i cant i can either buy him a brown webbing (would rather not as would not use this in future) or use his leather girth but this is a newmarket brown so much brighter then his tack.
Me- I have shirt, tie, tweed jacket and beige breeches with long boots. However my hat is navy with a black webbing strap and a badge on the front (charles owen) this is not something i am able to replace just yet so hope thats ok, and my gloves- i have both navy and white for dressage, i guess i should buy brown but the local shop only had expensive leather ones and i don't really want to spend that much.
I think my main worry is that i don't want to stand out for the wrong reasons but also don't want to spend much more in case i don't go showing again, do you think we would pass as acceptable?
oh and final silly question- i am useless at leg ups so is it ok for my groom to bring a step in with her when she comes in?
Sorry its turned into an essay but i feel better having written it down, this showing is well out of my comfort zone
