Paris is 31 today. Here she is, looking great, on her birthday:
P.S.: A late afternoon update from EMW:
So today old Paris turns 31 and for the 2nd afternoon in a row scares the bejeezuz out of us by playing 'dead' when we arrive... I do worry over her but if this old lady chooses to 'go' in her sleep then so be it. Tonight she hauled herself up and ate her fibre and supplements then off she went grazing while I offered up a silent prayer for another day with her. Happy Birthday you daft old bint!

Paris, yesterday:
An update from EMW, from today:
Today we were greeted by the sight of Paris with a cut throat! Argh! she'd trashed her fly rug which we think was the culprit as its possible the flies had gotten inside and caused her to rub herself to injury point. Another load of antiseptic treatment after a good wash off revealed several fairly deep gashes. She should be OK but we'll watch it with these flies about and if needs be go down the route of antibiotics to get it sorted fast. Tonight she got plenty of willow to chew on and to be honest she's best off with no rug as she can go in her shelter.

The day's summary, with an interesting status update on Paris:
A great couple of weeks ahead now. This next two days are given over to hoof trimming up to date - some done tonight but crikey it's hot work in these temps - as need to keep on top of it all. Paris got finished tonight, a nice cooling breeze helping a lot. I'm loving the clear evidence of hoof neglect being the major source of her 'collapsing' back end and how it's now hiking it's way back up but the muscles we got going earlier in the year are now having to 'rethink' things as her pastern angle adjusts and sets her feet back under her hocks again..all good stuff but in the process she will temporarily develop some hollows on her flank till her body catches up with her hoof changes.
What I do notice now is how much freer her stride is and how much less crab-like she now walks. This mare now looks younger and is very well.
The whole hoof structure is improved and what we thought we probably never see happen in her life time is coming in faster than an express train, she will have good feet before her time comes. |

An update on Paris and some of her friends:
We gave Paris and the oldies hay today though the two old lads were out when we got back this afternoon, not bothered by the rain despite it being heavy. They were funny, we shouted "Tea!" they ignored us.. then shouted "Dinner!!" and it was like the starting rope had gone up, two old guys galloping flat out up the field and straight through the gateway into the yard, they are both so fit and well despite being 30 and 31 years old. Wish I had got the camera on hand for this but because it was raining it was still in the car.
Paris though is far more conservative these days, breakfast 'in bed' was followed by tea in the dry while Larry was ousted into the rain and was dripping though still managing to scoff loads of grass through his muzzle!
paris and the old boys ( and old Garnlas) are remarkably sound, not stiff at all, this may co-incide with starting them all on Rosehips again.
The ponies are very unconcerned too, so much so they are all filthy and have done some serious mud rolling.
The rest of the day has been spent gnashing of crowns and using expletives as I wrestle and grapple with the change of website, is it worth it? right now i'm saying no! so much time and energy used for somethign that will be outdated within a couple of weeks, at least here it's right slap bang up to date on a daily basis ... the shape of things to come perhaps.
We've some thanks due but will get onto those tomorrow as tomorrow we welcome a visitor with goods for the sanctuary to either use or sell to raise funding but in the meantime a general and heartfelt thanks to all who help out and offer and keep this charity working. |

An update and a pic from today.
I sat with Paris this evening after chasing her with the fly repellent and sponge/brush - I won, she got covered then came back to eat her tea! Trustee Bryan who is on holiday this week commented on her agility to evade capture as he was walking back down the drive and saw her antics!
She's looking nice right now but I wish she'd build this muscle on her bum end a bit faster, we'd got it almost back to where it should be then her hoof improvement leading to higher pastern angle has meant we have to start building it again now. I'm impatient as I know she can do this!
She's back up to a higher level of conditioning feed now as we start to head towards cooler evenings and mornings.
