Thanks, that took me back a bit. I used to help at the races for the AHS and then ARO. I often judged and at one racecourse in the judges box someone had written on the wall "When you get it right no one ever remembers, when you get it wrong no one ever forgets"!
My favourite job was in the paddock where I also often had to judge best turned out. In one race there were two horses who really stood out and I had no idea which one to give BTO to. Then one of them (a stallion) got a bit sexually excited and his bits were beautifully clean so I gave it to him! I was telling one of the other paddock officials why I made my choice not realising that she was a friend of the horses owner. The owner came up to me afterwards and siad "Never got a best turned out for my horses dick before!"
Ah, some funny and happy days. Could go on for ages.

Great to watch and have giggle too. It's another world! One which my chap(El Chenz) has been part of before I had him..and done quite well too apparently.I know from experience he can certainly move up the gears when he has a mind too! |

Good clips, you can say Arab racing isn't boring. Brings back memories especially of hoembred mare finally winning her first race after 3 years on the track bless her, she's having a year off this year; and almost looked sad when my other two left for their trainers yard.
Anyone racing this year? |

Bless Sky Paul but she did you proud! "Anyone racing this year?".....is the pope catholic?! Indeed we will be fielding a few, amongst them Wikkara 2010 UK Champion Racehorse who will probably decide that he's had his day and be retired to the Endurance route

Long before I helped at the races we went to a few as spectators in the days when mum rode, dad lead round the parade ring and the kids all helped, all very amateur. I think the weight then was 11 stone or something very heavy. In one race when the announcer was reading out the runners and riders + weights he read out the horse's name and said 33lb overweight and this little, very fat woman got on her horse. I said to my husband "We know who is going to be tailed off last" but I was wrong. Although not placed she was in "the pack". Just shows what game little horses they are and how tough.
