Despite a long journey from Manchester we enjoyed a great day at Susan and Simon's Somerset Stud yesterday. The journey was worth it within two minutes of arriving when I peered over Artist's stable door and he obliged by strolling over and letting me stroke his muzzle, beautiful boy. In a fabulous location we were welcomed with a cup of coffee before Simon introduced the staff. Steve McCormick did a great job showing the horses, as stand in for Emma and a few of the horses were ridden by two smart and sensitive riders. First we saw horses for sale and Mike Ashmore gave a useful commentary on each one, we were able to place silent bids for any that we would like to buy. After an interval where we were treated to sandwiches and cakes by some lovely ladies we saw Susan's beautiful show horses and stallions whilst she told us all about them. Susan spoke about their breeding and her vision, encouraging us not to give up on our dreams, she is clearly very passionate about her horses. We were invited to take a closer look at the lovely horses and I for one enjoyed a visit into the stables of SG Elegant, SG Mikado and SG Baryshnikov, each had impeccable manners and each was an absolute darling. Highlights were seeing Artist in his 30th year (he got a cake with candles) and G Baryshnia the 16 year old mare who I believe also came from the Gucci Sale. Amazing, stunning and I for one felt very touched and emotional. Favorite horse of the day, a hard choice but mine was SG Latif Ibn Liana the 4 year old grey stallion. Thanks to all at Georgian Arabians for your wonderful hospitality, it was an absolute pleasure to have joined you. I hope my buddy Lynn will put some pics on this thread later

It really was a lovely afternoon, horses and cakes were all lovely! To name a fav, too many but Latif is just stunning and Emigrant - beautiful and huge at just 3 years of age, never seen an arab as tall as him! A little black filly called Darcy is def one to watch for the future! |

What a fabulous day We totally fell for SG Just Jude - what an absolutely gorgeous boy, he had a temperament to die for too. Amber Djewel was also rather special |

Kash, you noticed the temperaments too. It was something that stood out, every horse was as sweet as a pea and Mogwai, you're right it was way too far from Wigan, we set off at 0600 and got home at 0045!!! We really should have found a B and B and will do next time. Luckily we didn't stop chatting all the way there in our minibus

I was so sorry to miss this.I fell in love with them last year and did a write up which was published in the magazine.
Hearing the names of the horses I have met, Mikado, Amber Djewel, Baryshnia, Artist etc.brought back wonderful memories.
Did anyone see my special favourite Iman who will be a two year old colt now? |

Its a while since I was close up to any Georgian Arabian horses, but my favourties are Pustinia and Paleogeia, both grand old ladies now of 23 and 24, and of course Artist |

Shame I didn't know about it, I would have gone. Never mind, there hopefully will be a next time. Paleogeia is the dame of my filly - she is a lovely mare. |
