I hope you all like this photo of Aboud and Gillian taken approx 1988 at the nationals. This stallion got me in to Arabs in 1989. Which horse was your inspiration?

My grandparents lived just down the lane from Lythe Farm which is were the stud was in Hampshire. I ate and breathed that place all through the 70's and 80's, helped whenever I could and went to Ascot etc. Happy days !

Mine was Ringing Gold, because he was my first pony's sire. When I grew up the next two horses I bought were his descendents through Fangold, but I didn't find out until after I bought them - obviously just drawn to the bloodline
I also really like Bey Shadow, our gelding's grandsire on the dam line |

Aw he is stunning and what an amazing mane! I believe that is Eileen Tatam (my old boss) sitting in the shade next to her Horsebox in the background taking in all the action! |

I do believe you're correct Loopy Lou, that is Eileen. I know she was definitely there that year because I showed Zeyn in the 2yo colt class. Zeyn was bred by Eileen and she was there to give last minute advice and boost our confidence and also to congratulate him when he came 2nd to Kulak (Brian Blake). Happy memories |

I think the one that got me into arabians would have to be my old gelding El Campeador, the one i did my arab racing on in the 80's god bless him |

Hi, What a lovely picture of Lila's sire. Aboud was the one that I wanted a foal by after my mare had died who was by the stallion Mufaq. Mufaq got me into Arabs. I have to run now, but will tell the story later.
Can I get this picture from Aboud through email?? I can PM you my email address??

Forgot to say that he and his daughter Lila (my mare born in 1989 and still going strong) are the most gorgeous Arabs I have ever seen.

Oh, Aboud is lovely - and he's my Chips' grandsire on his dam's side.
The horse who got me hooked on Arabs was Mikhan of Pulpits (Mikeno x Dragonfly) who was at stud at the yard where I kept (and still keep) my boys. He was a perfect gentleman and was regularly handled by us "livery girls" (all teenagers). We were allowed to turn him out/bring him in and were allowed to ride him bareback in a rope halter whilst doing so. He was a sweetheart who used to regularly drink a bucket of goats milk (there was a maiden milker at the farm). The mares used to pass his stable on their way out of the stable block and he used to chat to them all. He did ridden showing/hunting/show jumping etc as well as being a superb sire and doing well in-hand (reserve BNC in 1985 I think).
This picture (poor quality as it was copied from a print) must have been taken in 1971 as it shows him talking to a filly foal with whom he later produced many cracking foals. The foal is Bint Rushna (Rustem Pasha x Dukhna) so in one photo we have both of my Roger's maternal grandparents!

I dont think any particular Arab got me into them, I'd always had PBA's and then when I had to retire from BSJA jumping, I decided to get a pure bred. Although I'd always been Arab mad, the fact I'd show jumped and been so tightly locked into jumping, pure bred's didnt really factor into it. Everyone thought I was mad for having pretty part breds that I competed on. Even though they all did really well and made everyone eat their words. |

They are all gorgeous, but I did always admire Aboud particularly. I had the pleasure of meeting Diamond Star, who was stunning too.

Suyents: Gillian is still living in Greenlaw on the edge of Rowchester Farm in a mobile home. The plan is to build a new house although I gather there are problems with planning etc... I spoke to her the other day and she sounded in good spirits. I am going down in a couple of weeks to see her and I will try to get some photos of her current( Aboud related!!! )stock and post them on here. Gingo: Thanks for the pic of Diamond Star. I wish I had seen him in the flesh. I will tell Gillian about all your lovely comments folks. It will make her day! |

kirst, please remember me to Gillian and give her all my best - she is a very special lady.
Auchmillan were the first to use Aboud on our foundation mare Shireema (Shirar x Sitara) she produced a colt (gelding) who went on to race, jump etc etc. I will try to find photos - he was a big chap with superb movement and SPEED!!!! |

I just love this family of horses, they are all so beautiful, thanks for posting Kirst. Abouds dam was the wonderful Azeme Bint Gleam, the combination with Diamond Star was a match made in heaven, as far as I know she only ever had 5 foals, Aboud, Abbah by Ben Rabba exported to Israel, Aureme by Aurelian, a horse by Sabek not sure of the name and our own Alize Bint Azeme by Istfahan, they are all remarkably similar, I'll ask Lorraine to post a few of Azzy.
The stallions that I was lucky enough to meet and got me into arabs were Silvadoris, Oran/Silver Magic, the majestic Rajeyd Ludo/Silver Ripple and the fairy tale Bakir El Sabah Argos/Zarnuqua.
