My car insurance is now up for renewal after having previously been on Mum's policy after Dad died and left the vehicle to me. In my name aviva are saying I need to pay 800 a year!!
I am 35, 6 years no claims, car is worth about 1500 so I don't get it!!
It's a Nissan terrano turbo diesel import, automatic but to top it all none of the online quote sites recognise it from the reg number!! Any advice appreciated as no way can I afford 77 per month as I not even started at new job yet!!

Is this the first year you have had your own policy/
If so then it is high because of this....if not then go on go compare.com to see if you can get it cheaper...even try upping your access to get the amount down.

I did one of those "compare the market" things, tho not sure it was that exact one... I ended up with Swinton Insurance and they were spot on when I needed my windscreen replacing, and it was done within a day.... I have re-newed this year also as they were so good... good luck with your search. The internet is deff the best place to look I think.

..... and on similar lines, I have just had to re-new my pet insurance for my cat and dog. I had a renewal quote from the company I was insured with and when I went on line, it was much cheeper again... nearly 1.50 a month cheaper per animal. I know its not a lot but for the same policy taken out on line, I would rather the money be in my pocket! All I had to do was overlap the start of the insurance onto the beginning of my old one, so my pets were always covered. - just thought I would say to see if anyone else would benefit!!... can you tell I spend too much time surfing??!!!

Either try the internet or do you have an insurance brokers in your nearest town that can search for the best quote for you? - they might be able to help if the internet sites aren't recognising your number plate.

I googled "compare car insurance premiums" and came up with a site that saved me nearly 300 on the price the AA as brokers had quoted me.

thanks everyone! been trawling the web loads and then spoke to a friend who used to drive for Dad when he had the lorries. His friend has just insured the same car as mine (although not an import) for 195. He's a year older than me with 6 points so I'll try them tomorrow.Oh ,them being Direct Line!!
And I have had my own insurance before on all the cars I've had except when I've been carless but could borrow Mums

Finally got it sorted, apparently the imported terramo is otherwise known as a mistral! Insured through Direct Line for 205 with the OH as second driver. Phew!! Better than the 800 previously quoted!!
