I thought I would just post a short note to say to anyone who knows my dear old mare Black Angel that she has just foaled a wonderful jet black filly by Ali Bey. Angel is now 19 and I bought her from British Columbia, Canada as a 2 yr old. She has had 15 consecutive live foals for me and this will be her last as I think she now deserves a long and happy retirement just plodding happily around the farm. She injured 2 legs badly back in November last year (Walkyria kicked her back leg fracturing the sesamoid bone, and spinning out of the way she ruptured her tendon in her front leg!) and had 5 months complete box rest, bandaged up front and back. I was told she would probably have to be put down, but there was absolutely no way I was doing this. She is now sound, only bandaged behind (due to come of shortly) and hopefully will live to a ripe old age. I shall have a large G & T tonight to toast her recovery and her lovely filly!

CONGRATULATIONS Ann! Black Angel is a very special mare, you can certainly be proud of all her achievments as a mother and also the contentment of having her around in her retirement years. Will you keep this filly yourself to maybe try to fill the mantle of her mother in future? I always hope to be able to get down to your part of the country and visit your wonderful horses one day. Also while Im on, I was always curious as to what happened to the colt you bred by Flambaard out of Vainglorious - I would love to see the results of the Monogramm/Psyche cross? Fiona |

I saw Vainglorious as a foal at La Cabreah. She was stunning, with so much type, presence and attitude.I'd love to see her as a mature mare. Liz Salmon

Hi Fiona, Thank you for your kind comments about Angel, she is a special favourite of mine. Yes I am keeping the filly as it is her last. You are most welcome to come down and see my horses any time, just contact me beforehand. Whereabouts are you?
Liz, Yes Vainglorious is a lovely mare, she is now owned by Heather Brown if you want any more info. on her. I think she is going to be shown this year.

Fiona, Sorry forgot to mention about the Flambaard colt. He was sold to a lovely home as a weanling and then turned out to be a "wobbler" at about 18 months old, if I remember rightly so he had to be put down. Then, unfortunately, Flambaard broke his leg and he was lost too. Such a sad time.

Thanx for the information Ann. I knew that Flambaard was gone, but also sorry to hear about his colt - such a shame as I am sure he would have been a stunner, and of course now this mating can't be repeated. I hope that Heather does show Glo in hand this year, Id love to see her. (Incidently Liz, I have an old video of Padrons Psyche where Vainglorious is one of the featured foals at LC - and she was a stunner) Thank you so much for the open invitation to visit your stud Ann. I live up in the wilds of the North East of England, which can be such a distance from anywhere. But I try to attend all the big shows and I will definitely try and make it down to your neck of the woods sometime this year, would love to visit Halsdon too and also fascinated by the legacy of Polish Arabians of Patricia Lindsay as well as a couple of other places. Am currently looking forward to attending the much hyped Arabian Festival weekend at Fontwell next month... Best Wishes!

Wow! Well done Black Angel - what a special mare she is! I remember the time we were photographing her and her filly (nick-named Hooly - short for Hooligan!) who was living upto her name! I hope she enjoys a long and happy retirement - she certainly deserves it!

So pleased for you that Angels last foal is a black filly - now you have a daughter to carry on her legacy. I hope she has a long and carefree retirement - and no more accidents! She has always been a favourite of mine - as proved by the fact that I have one daughter of hers, two grand-daughters and now one great grand-daughter!
See you around at the shows.

Thanks everyone SO SO SO much for all your kind comments - anybody who knows me just knows how special Angel has always been to me - your comments brought tears to my eyes - sorry to be so soppy! Marilyn - There's still time for another special pic of her, she still looks like a 10 year old! I might drag her up to Malvern in a couple of years time if her legs are still OK and perhaps show her myself in the Veterans - no comments on that please.... Suyen - Perhaps we could take Natasha and Angel, one with dodgy teeth and one with dodgy legs, and that's just the owners! Helen - how did you "nearly" get an Ali baby last year? Pat - we're due for gossip over another Indian.... If anyone's got a special name, starting with "A" for the filly please let me know.... Many thanks

Marilyn, Forgot to mention that I have seen some recent pics of "Hooly" and she is doing extremely well in Endurance in Switzerland. Never the most energetic of souls - can't picture her riding up mountains!

Ann,
I sponsor the Veteran mare class in memory of my dear departed Perissa, so it would/will be lovely to see you!!!!!!!
You may find that she has other idea's about retirement though as my friend has found with her mare Kariszma (Musketeer/Perissa). At the age of 21 she was showing every indication that SHE WANTED another foal so Gill covered her and hey presto she took first time. That was two years ago and she is seriously contemplating putting her in foal again this year as again SHE really wants to. So you never know, BA might have a year or too off, so to speak, and I'm sure she'll let you know if she wants another one!!!!!

Forget the veteran class she should do the Princess Muna - I have enough progeny to take without all the other babies she has had!! and I'd love an indian - might even see the ex hubby as he apparently frequents restaurants in Looe quite often now he's only down the road from you - poor you!!!

Vera, I think I would have to join a gym before I attempt to run around the ring again! Still, I think I might have a go as it's Angel. I haven't been in the ring for 10 years!!! Tina, Thanks for the suggestion, but I have already used that one. Pat, Count me in for the Indian in Looe, the added possibility of an impromptu punch-up can't be resisted! Better up the G & Ts BEFORE we even set out - it could be a long evening! Will give some thought to the P. Muna - good idea - it would turn out to be the "Pat Hannay" class! I'll give you a ring.

congrats to you both!!
i noticed that you had bur sables filly for sale not so long ago. how did you get on? bur sable is a favorite of mine and only a short distance from me. i have been on your site a few times and love your horses!
i always wanted a black stallion, instead i ended up with a liver chestnut and a black/grey! i think next time i will go for want i really want!!
i hope angel enjoys her retirement, we retired our old mare, royal quest, last year. she also gave us a stunning filly to carry on the line so good of them to do that for us

Suyen, Don't worry, I grabbed someone else! very bad when these showing yards are not prepared, and only have one whip (this is a joke, ha ha)! Yep, Annie owes us at least two big G/T's each, probably three. I will be at Fontwell, entered, Wessex and Bicton just to watch, then Malvern and Towerlands entered. See you soon, Sue |
