Hi
I have recently had a pure bred foal and he has a very unusual marking on his side- a big white splash as you can see from pic's.
I would be very interested to hear if anyone else has an Arab with a similar marking? And would love to see any pic's!
Bex.

Very novel, I haven't seen one that high up before, he'll be easy to spot for a while to come,he looks as if he may be going to grey out in the end though. It must have been quite startling to see that when he arrived!

Coincidentally my Vet was telling me about a Standard bred he'd foaled this spring that had a white patch on his ribs, the owner reckoned it came from the foal sticking to the side in utero! Vet didn't offer a professional opinion.

Just out of curiosity, technically, is that splodge large enough to qualify him to be a coloured as well?

a friend of mine also told me that splashes and splodges are to do with how they are in the womb - interesting.

He is lovely by the way

There was a whole thread about Arabs with such extraordinary splashes and splodges some looked like coloureds. Is it to do with the sabino genes? There are loads of experts on here who'll be able to explain!

PintoArabian on here has a super Straight Russian colt (Picasso Kossack) who has a large belly splodge. Hopefully he'll see this thread and be able to post some photos

Thanks very much everyone.
That is interesting I wonder if it is something to do with how they are in the womb!
I have no idea if it's large enough for him to be classed as a coloured as well depends how big the splodge/splash is I guess and if theres more than one?!
Pinto Arabian- your boy is truly stunning!

Thanks for the nice comments about Picasso. He seems to have fans around the world and a huge number of people were 'blown away' when he appeared as a foal. We love him to bits and receive emails from many people from all over the world who remember him at the Tersk Holland Sale. Not only is he a 'looker' but he has the nicest temperament too. The white markings are passed down from horses carrying the sabino gene. It is not uncommon for pure bred Arabs to carry this gene and it is prevalent, particularly amongst Crabbet bred horses. Other notable horses carrying this gene are OAS Panache and Indian Golden Silk. Kubinec also carries the gene and has sired a number of foals with a belly splash, but Picasso's seems to be the largest. Khemosabi also passed this gene down to many of his stock in the USA, most notably Khartoon Khlassic, who has sired a number of loudly splashed sabino Arabs.
Bex, your horse would be eligible to be registered with either CHAPS(UK) or the BSPA as his white patch is large enough.

Bex, this isn't an Arab but there is a big bay hunter mare on our yard with a white patch virtually identical to the one on your foal. Interesting. Family are bay or chestnut.

Pintoarabian, thank you for that information and I hope to see Piccaso Kossack in the flesh one day
Garnet, thats strange! you will have to try and get a photo of the mare on here.
Judith I am in N.Wales, near Wrexham you would be very welcome here, I'd love to meet you
I'll pop another photo of him on.

This is one taken in August before I had him he was 3 and a half months old, and the one below was taken yesterday and shows his other side spalsh/splodge free!

Several days ago I posted on the Tail Female thread the name of the Abbas Pasha acquired desert mare responsible for the parti-coloration. It comes through Mahruss but I find it particularly marked where there is Rodania, Mesaoud and Mahruss in close combination. Lady Wentworth wrote about the markings extensively in her book, THE WORLDS BEST HORSE and Abe Books have several copies available.

FWIW-Good example of the three acting horses in concert-Rodania, Mesaoud, Mahruss-in Picasso Kossack's pedigree, the three are found in *Rissalma via Popova's sire, Podsnejnik via Priboj and again through Muscat's dam, Malpia and Karta's dam Kapella who are both by Priboj who is out of *Rissalma. Also, Ptashka via Balaton was a granddaughter as well as Metropolia all by Priboj out of *Rissalma. With multiple divergent lines to Priboj/*Rissalma and the strength of the chestnut blood...is it any surprise that he had a chance to be so wonderfully marked?

By the way, there was a kingdom that bred parti-coloreds purebreds exclusively per Lady W.

Hi Gari
That info is so interesting
You helped me out with both my boys and looked in to their pedigree's for me- 'Tahyesh Ibn Montroze' is the boy I have just purchased with the white splodge and I have just looked and realised he also has Rodania, Mesaoud, Mahruss in his pedigree- which could well explain the marking?!
Thanks
Becci.

Pinto Arabian you say Bex' foal would be eligible for Chaps registration, but has the foal is technically grey and at some point will white out how does this work? Would they allow registration up until the horse whites out and the splodge is no longer visible?

This is my Khars Splash of Klass (3, "Pebbles") purebred Arabian, 3 x Khemosabi, as a foal.
First time I saw this picture I felt in love with her. It took 3 years, now she's with me.

Have a nice day
Marion
