Hi Michelle, I think I said last time and it was interesting. I'm a journalist working on the local paper and doing PR for my local Arts Centre. I also do an Oxfordshire column for a local horsey magazine. I reckon most of the wages for the work I do goes on my horses, their feed, vets' bills, the lorry, insurances etc etc. They're the most expensive hobby! |

Does it count if you do lots of unpaid, grotty jobs revolving around ungrateful children? If so, then I'm mum to 4yr old twins and I chose to stay at home and look after them for some unrecalled reason from long ago! The upside is that when they are at nursery, I get to spend mornings with my Arab mare and chums at the yard which I love. Before they were born I was a PA, usually for boring corporations but I did work for Bristol Childrens Hospital for a while which I loved. When I eventually return to work, I would love to work for a charity again as I found it very rewarding (not to mention that you seem to get to eat lots of cakes and drink copious quantities of tea ).

I'm a science technician at a secondary school (and no I don't get all the holidays ) I'm the one who sets up all the exciting (and messy) experiments..and the one who cleans up the labs afterwards! I'm in charge of the biology dept so I get to care for the animals too. Spent 15 years working in an industry lab, and changed directions in Jan this year. Best move I ever made, less hours at work mean more hours with Honey and I'm 100% less stressed Bet your jobs ace in the summer Michelle |

I write sort of lightweight/popular social-science books - the most recent is Watching the English: The Hidden Rules of English Behaviour, which to my suprise became a bestseller! I'm supposed to be co-director of a research centre in Oxford, but I'm never there cos I'm trying to write another book - about Shopping (another subject nobody really understands - me included, although goodness knows I do enough of it)! I also write a column in a monthly women's mag called Psychologies. |

Hi,
I'm a primary school teacher and unlike Honeyb I do get all the hols Sorry Honeyb But hey, we sure need it! 33 P7's (Yr 6) every day is tough work!!
I've just moved Po and I can see her paddock from my classroom!! Ok, I admit, I need vision like the bionic man to actually see her close up, but it's the next best thing to having her at home...having her at work!!
If she was nearer we I could do lessons on reading horses! hehe ...hmmmm......wonder if the school budget will stretch to 33 pairs of binoculars... |

I havnt got a job.
Well, not as such!! I never seem to have any spare time at any rate.
I dont know what my mother did bringing me up, but I was only talking today at our show, seriously.....I was My sole purpose in life seems to be to feed everything!!!! I am not joking. Everyone and everything seems content, from family, friends, my animals, and all the wildlife, we share our farm with, its more than a full time job, everyday
Example: Its 10.42pm, raining, and I am just off out to skip the horses, put last nets in, feed the foxes that will be waiting, pop dogs out, then mash Johns and my last cup of tea, to take to bed.
I dont know how the ones of you that have a job, do it. You have my greatest admiration.
I have just read my post, and had to laugh, and yes, at my age, a cup of tea in bed is lovely LOL. OOHHPPSS. |

I must say that I admire you all for having very responsible jobs AND caring for your equine and other friends too!! I know what you mean about feeding Pat, it sometimes feels like Piccadilly Circus here, and everyone expects a main meal at any time of day - thats just the humans!!
We farm, mainly livestock, and also spend most of our time trying to adhere to the environmental and governmental rules!!! Great fun, just love red tape!!!.
I wish I could find a word for my job, the best description I can find is "chasing one's a**e"

Hi,I'm a theatre sister,(not the theatrical kind, ha ha)working nights, most of my money goes on the horses and I also seem to be always feeding things, I have 4 kids that never stop eating, if I ever get this place renovated we will open at public stud again, then hopefully I can drop some hours, still keeps me young, I think, Mandy xx |

It is an interesting topic because you need to be so economical with your time in all directions to have just one horse as well as work, children, husband and other animals. I am a tax adviser but I mainly work from home which means I can snatch time to ride (but not look after) my horse which is why he is on full livery. He gets lots of attention during the the slack months which are March April and May and I am thinking of giving him January off altogether because it is too difficult to balance him and all that work! |

I think this is a great topic
I work for a security firm. We install intruder alarms, CCTV and access control systems.
Unfortunately I work full-time but would love to do less hours at work and devote them to what I know and love best, my animals
As well as working I run an unofficial ferret welfare. This is totally funded by myself, which can be a challenge. At present we have 21 ferret babies looking for new homes
I am also trying to set up a small animal boarding service. I hope to get this off the ground within the next couple of years, it will enable me to spend more time at the yard with my creatures.
I have a small yard and have a couple of liveries keeping me company at present.
I would also love to buy/rescue arabians, rehabilitate them and sell them on to long-term/permanent loving homes.
Its a wonder I have time to work at all really |

I knew this would be an interesting topic - it was last time I dont know how those of you with kids do it? And those of you who are nurses and carers are an insperation!!!
The strangest for me is reading about people who work in London as it seems like such a different life from mine, it sounds so exciting! I cant imagine having to dress up for work Michelle |
