Years, and years ago, i remember being amazed when a programme came on tv about twin brothers who saved up their paper round money and bought an arab horse called Irus, and they then raced him and enjoyed many succesess with him. I think i was about 10 or 11 years old at the time, full of wild idea's, i then went on to write to Halsdon Arabians asking if they could loan me an arab so i could race ( i cringe in embarrassment now), and would pay with my paper round money, they very kindly sent me a video, which i still have, that video helped me through many dark hours of my life. It also kept me determined and focused, that one day, i will own an arabian of my own. Went a bit off track there! But what happened to the Cheatle Brothers?? Cheers Nikki

Found a link to Rob Sedgeley's website who helped train Irus to become an endurance horse following his racing career. Although no more info than that. |

Yes i can remember they bought his brother too, as they wanted to use him at stud. It was a great programme and really inspired me.
I wonder whether the sale of arab horses went up, or an intrest in arab racing? |

Thast was a super programme. It was done by the BBC so they might still be able to supply it. I had it on a home-videoed tape and kept it until it was borrowed by one of the grooms and I never got it back... They bought Irus from Joan Ratcliff I seem to remember. It was part drama, part documentary because they interviewed the real people in between the re-enactments of the boys trying to break the horse in without any experience and falling off time and time again. It was very funny but reallly impressive. Great to watch Arab racing on TV! |

Oh I had almost forgotten about that! Loved it! They were featured in horse and pony mag too! I loved it when they went to the stud and brought out that gorgeous chestnut and told the boy to describe an Arab! And the song Dizzy when they were trying to break him in!
ahhh can't remember the name of the film, its on the tip of my tongue! So annoying when that happens!!
IVE GOT IT!

The Horse and His Boys... was either its name or its subtitle. Remember the boy falling off his bike - flat out sideways onto the lawn - after an afternoon trying to stay on the bucking horse? |
