Posted - 29 Jun 2016 : 08:47:05 AM Okay, so we all have Swallows or House Martins, maybe even Swifts nesting in our stables [I say we, but we only have Swallows, some of you may be lucky to have the others]
Our stables were only put up last year, as we moved to a new farm and had to buy the stables ourselves
So, I had one Swallow early July last year try to make a nest, but it was soon abandoned, a real half ar*e job. So I knocked it down over winter during my cobweb clean.
This year, I don't have any nests, but I have mice in the back left corner bank. Which is fine. They're field mice, and ridiculously cute, so they can stay if they want to.
I had a peek in my mum's stable this morning, as I was looking for the Dove baby I fed through infancy {I have a horrid habit of adopting baby birds, and just helping them along a bit. Gordon was fine, cooing in the rafters.. At this point, I notice a bundle of intricately woven hay in Mum's back left corner... IN THE EAVES
No way is that a bird's nest, it looks just like the little nests my Mice made [I bred mice for a couple of years, started as a college project, ended up with me having around 400... Yeah, I know }
So, what I'm asking is, what could it be?! Would mice scale the stable wall to get to a nest? It's too beautiful for words, but I was running late this morning, so didn't grab a photo... I will this evening
Harvest mouse? Dormouse!?

Posted - 29 Jun 2016 : 4:39:31 PM Looking forward to photos. We have lots of baby swallows this year with average 5/6 chicks per nest, most now fledging so you have to duck when going in and out of stables. Only one pair of housemartins this year , we normally have lots
