We have an owl box on the land where I keep Ari and I have seen the adult barn owls in spring flying in and out early evening and what a fabulous sight.
The Owl man came today to ring and weigh the youngsters and wow!I got to meet them up close and wish them luck in surviving. 3 girls 1 boy, very good weights.
I learned so much; they hatch 2 days apart and mum has already left and is on with second brood in a box a few fields away however parents come back to feed as they had left 7 freshly caught voles this morning.
Magical experience.

We only hear ours at night Ari so never seen it , we have Red Kites here as well, the parents were flying round the other week with 2 youngsters . The bird watchers have been out in force up ours for the last few months, i was giggling at one of them the other day as he was trying to get close up pictures of one of our Cuckoos, he had a tape playing Cuckoo sounds and a furry Cuckoo toy sitting on the wall beside the tape , of course i came ambling olong the road on my horse and spoilt any chance he had of photos

Sally I have only just learned about owls however the Barn Owl is a big bird in flight and is white underneath. Tawny Owls are smaller and darker underneath. We have Red Kytes and I love to see them and was pleased they are doing well until bird conservation chap told me they are not good for many species of small birds as they kill and eat chicks.
This bird business is very complicated, makes horses simple.

She has a mate that helps, however the vole population is on a down this year but thankfully not in our area as that can make it hard for barn owls.
The owl I saw spring evenings flying in and out will have been the male keeping her fed whilst incubating the eggs.
I feel privileged to have shared a little bit of their lives.

So mum has 2 families to keep fed, good for her and how lucky for you to be part of this and share with us. Thank you.

The thing that amazed me was how incredibly soft they are to touch. Beautiful creatures - what an interesting and wonderful experience for you.
