I am looking for a lightweight helmet for summer riding. I only hack a couple of times a week so don't want too expensive but obviously safe. Can anyone recommend good value comfortable hats. Thanks

Misshana, I know others who also have the Junior - they fit adults very well!

Just remember that if you decide to do any competitions with it from Jan 2016 it needs to meet the new regulations. I believe all riding cubs, BD, BS, BE are following this. Im not sure about showing societies but think itl depend which one.
Hats with only the EN number wont comply. It needs to have a 2nd one like PAS or SNELL.
Im having to replace both my showing hat and my dressage hat. Both I got just last year. My xmas present for this year! Ill just use them as everyday riding hats though.

Thanks for your input. I looked at the Champion Junior but was unsure if fitting would be different for a child ie depth of hat. I have ordered a Troxel to try. Very difficult on the internet as all these hats fit different head shapes. Tried several different makes in local tack shop and all were different fit. Unfortunately no-one local stocks Troxel or anything similar. Most of our local tack shops are running stock down in preparation for new hat regulations which are coming in soon apparently.

I have a Tipperary,so light you forget you are wearing it and with ventilation holes,I live in Italy and we get very hot temperatures in summer but I never felt hot wearing it.It is shaped to protect the nape as well.Payed about 100 euros for it a couple of years ago.

I've got a Champion Junior - light and comfortable. The amazing thing is that if you buy a child/"junior" hat there's no VAT so it will be about £50!! The junior hats go up to adult size I.e. At least a 7 in old money.

There is also a Troxel at £50 on their website which is another good make - I think my OH has one of those.

I've got a Zilco with ventilation holes which was around £80 I think. Very comfortable and adjustable size so in winter I let it out a bit and wear a fleece scarf underneath. Not sure what classes as expensive these days with the diamante ones coming in at £600+ but I think this is reasonable for comfort and safety. Hope this helps. If you look online at Cannock Chase Equine that's where I had mine from as I know them but you may find a stockist close to you.
