I've done a search on here (I knew there would be loads of threads about bridles!) but can't find specifically what I'm looking for.

I'd like to put a new bridle on my Christmas list but really need a soft leather one. Our current bridle was bespoke, made by a friend who has now retired. She made it from lovely soft leather but being so soft the leather has I think stretched a bit.

From memory, the bridle I originally got for him was too small on the browband and the cheekpieces were too long, so I ended up buying extra bits, that didn't particularly match, to swap. It also rubbed his face, hence the requirement for a nice soft one.

Does anyone know where I can get an off-the-rail soft leather bridle, preferably from a supplier who is prepared to mix and match? I've looked in our local tack shops but can't find what I'm after.

E Jeffries bridles....they allow you to mix and match and have a variety of widths. All my good bridles in past are E Jeffries. My boy currently has a gfs which is really nice but prob too chunky.

This is the link to the site where I got mine from, although to be honest it isn't a great pic - brown bridle on a dark horse doesn't really show it off properly. Also, mine has soft leather reins, not rubber ones as stated in the ad, not that I'm keeping them, I'm going to continue using my laced reins which I love. Hope it's ok to post this, I'm not advertising, just showing a pic. Other websites are available ...

FYI the noseband is about 18 mm wide, cheek pieces about 15 mm, throat lash less than 10 mm, brow band same as cheek pieces. The headpiece is the bulkiest bit, it's 3 cm wide right on the top of the head, but shaped to be more narrow behind the ears. It is padded though and the noseband threads through and over the top, which makes it stand up about 15 mm. I didn't notice it looking bulky on Raf though.

I won't be assembling it properly until after Christmas when it will be officially mine, otherwise I'd take a photo for you.

How wide are the cheek pieces and nose and? Are they narrow??

Well thanks Caro, I got the cob size and it fits beautifully and is lovely and soft. It looks nice on (just had it on to try but can't use it until Christmas lol). Now I'm after a nice bling browband to go on it. Santa, are you listening ??

Hi I am looking at bridles too. I like the look of Frank Baines bridles, does anyone have one or know anything good/bad about them? Thanks

After having a mix of bridles. Cobbled together I bought a silvercrown bridle from shadowhorse. It's not the cheapest but is the nicest bridle I have ever had. They do a pony cob size which fits his arab head perfectly and have a good choice of noseband. I am saving up for one for the other horse now!

Hi - I got her a cob size, she needs the width on the browband. Hope that helps

Carl is it very fine, I have a lovely fine FSS one but because it has the padded head piece looks very bulky....

Thanks Caro. Just had a look online at them. What size did you get Tara?
Caro23 Posted - 14 Nov 2014 : 4:41:18 PM
I've just bought Tara a Caldene Black Label cavesson bridle - its very soft leather, they use a special eco, non toxic tanning method. I wanted a flat (but not wide hunter noseband/browband) and it's lovely, quite traditional and was about £68 online.

Thanks Sab, I do like them. Raf doesn't have a particulary dainty head - small but not overly dished - so I think a wide noseband would look quite nice, especially as I'm planning on going out with the Bloodhounds a few times this winter.

Quite expensive though - I'm not sure whether Santa will stretch to that, will have to be very good.

I got an Elevator bridle for my Trakehner mare, i measured her and sent them the details and they did it for me. It is a few years old now and lovely and soft. The noseband is wide on mine so you would need to check width of leather etc for Arabs dainty heads with them but i love mine.
