Ok we have 15 weeks till Christmas and for anybody who wants a bit of moral support and healthy competition then let's use this post.
You can disclose amount to be lost no need to share starting weight if you don't want as it's all about whats lost!
Advice, recipes and different ways to diet all welcome.
9 years ago I was 14st and by counting calories got to my ideal 10st 2lb. Have kept it off until I turned 55 and now10lbs of fat has gathered around my middle.
Time for action I didn't loose all that weight to let it creep back on.
So I am 10st12lbs and on a mission to be 10st 2lb by Christmas.

ok glo.... must admit not too bad today...Avocado, nuts and eggs and a bit of cheese and greek yoghurt ... all surprisingly keep the hunger pains away.. even in small portions... i have had some fruit, apple pear and raspberries.... prob shouldnt have fruit but i need to keep germs away with the vit C. Went to bed hungry last night....oh for a cup of thick hot chocolate with all the trimmings.

ok Barbara.... going to give your diet advice a go. NO CARBS til end Feb and see what happens.... all is not lost if I can still eat CHEESE which I thought I probably should/could not eat. Can I not even have a bit of wholemeal bread or wholemeal rice ? and why no milk if cheese is ok?

I had three mince pies over the festive season and they put my glucose way too high but it was worth it; I really love mince pies and brandy butter but had cream instead as fat is OK for me. I have boxes of chocolates which I lust after but can't eat. My son is coming over soon to pick them up. I did have two (chocolates not boxes!) a few nights ago but I know for my long term health I can't have them so I need to get rid of them as they are temptation.

Guys, you need to go on a very low carb diet. You can eat meat, fish, eggs, lots of "above ground veg" so not potatoes, parsnips, carrots etc. No cereals, porridge, pasta, pizza, bread, cakes etc.or milk. Unlike me you can have small portions of the "forbidden" foods but the diet works better if you don't.

You can have fats: nuts, cream, full fat plain Greek yoghurt, eggs, cheese etc. I ate up a Muller corner I had (eton mess!) and my glucose went really high so had to give the rest away. It is carbs that make you fat, not fats, so you won't feel hungry and yunlike me, ou can all have an occasional treat. I am never hungry just really bored with what I can actually eat as I can't have much fruit (which I love) or my bran flakes with fruit for breakfast - have had that for years and really miss it. I usually have a cheese omelette as I can't have toast with a boiled egg and don't like it without.

Hope you all manage to lose a bit; I lost one and a half stone and now look like a starvation case!!!! Really don't want to be this thin, over or under weight is fine but extremes are not.

I put on half a stone when we went on holiday in October and intended to lose it again before Christmas. I then put on another half stone with Christmas food followed by lying around with flu. Bummer! Need to get back into action and proper eating!

I too have eaten far too much over the festive season that lasts weeks with meals at work, people bringing in gorgeous Christmas cake and cheese, chocolates, mince pies etc. I have my puppy home now so me and my ever faithful Dexter (older dog) are upping our exercise and that will help.
It is very hard when the weather is cold to be good, but healthy stew of veg and lean meat in the slow cooker.

I have been avoiding this thread, after all the hard work, put it all back on and now feel like a porker, I would have the girls around and eat the chocolates in one go with a few of you it won't take long, you may well feel fat and horrible after, but a least there will be no more temptation. I am back on the diet.

Trying to do more exercise, by parking at the top of the hill to my friends walking down and thinking it was a bad idea struggling to get back up? Takes me 12 minuets, by that time I am red in the face and can feel my hart beating!

Gulp.... just weighed myself..... have put ON 6 lbs over xmas ! I tried so hard not to eat too much.... dont think I was that bad, but why do people buy you chocolates when they know that A: you really really LOVE them and HAVE to eat them !! B: You have no will power where chocs are concerned and C: You constantly struggle to be in the ok BMI zone.
I have now slipped into the NOT OK BMI zone !!
I have some chocs left ... I feel like gobbling them all up in one go so then they are gone... I will manage to refrain from this... I should give them away... BUT HONESTLY WHO CAN GIVE THEIR CHOCS AWAY !!

How are you all doing with the diets? Ready for the new glam clothes for Christmas? I hope you all enjoy the food without over indulging.

I miss typed the date, it was today we went out for a meal with my son and his family. We went to a lovely pub/restaurant and had a really lovely meal. I had a big steak and salad and a glass of red wine followed by a liqueur coffee. My son had cheese and biscuits and I did pinch a really lovely biscuit (must ask what it was as I have never had one like it before and it was really delicious) with a little cheese. I was pleasantly full and although I did drool a bit when I saw the puddings I was pleased that my glucose was normal when I tested later; it isn't often! Just have to splash out on steaks and get some of those biscuits; sorted!!!

I love the seeded/granary breads etc. but sadly that is off limits for me now. Haven't had any bread for a couple of months but if I can sort out my blood glucose it will be worth it in the end. Hope your cold is better Heather and you and everyone else have a great Christmas.

Where can I shop to get a bigger size of jeans??? I am now less than 7 stone and my size 8s are getting loose apart from the really stretchy one (they were getting tight before I had my free health check, most stores don't do size 6 and I really don't want to lose any more weight as there will be nothing left of me except bones.

Keep up the good work all you dieters. The secret is almost no carbs. No bread, rice, pasta, breakfast cereal (even my bran flakes which I have had for 20 years), cakes, biscuits, chocolates, crisps, pizza; my list of forbidden goes on and on if I want to keep my blood glucose down. Cut down on fruit, that is hard for me as I love fruit and so healthy (except for diabetics as too much sugar). Good news for dieters; you can have bacon, eggs, mushrooms etc but no fried bread, toast or hash browns etc; salads with meat, even leave the fat on; nuts; unlimited veg that grows ABOVE the ground, very limited amounts of those which grow under the ground apart from onions and garlic. I can tell you the very low carb diet really does work and you needn't feel hungry and, unlike me, you can have the occasional piece of toast and butter, chocolate etc.

Heather, "!! Barbara !! That doughnut eating husband is just plain cruel... that should be a prosecuteble offence" I really can't expect that people will moderate their diets to suit me, it would be totally unreasonable. We are going to my son's on the 22nd for a Christmas meal and I will just have to pass on the chocolates etc although I WILL have a mince pie (yum, yum) and I may even have a mouthfull of Christmas pudding as I think one bad day every few months isn't going to kill me and if it does I will die licking my lips!!!!!

Ive only lost 2lbs. I got a fright when I went shopping last week. Bought a pair of trousers, didnt bother trying them on in shop because of the queue. So when I went to a different shop to something else I thought Id try them on too. I couldnt even get them fastened! Ive never been above my usual size. Then realised the hanger said my size but them label was size smaller...dammit!
Im turning into a hula hooping queen in front of the telly though! Got my pilates for riders book too which Im trying to do a few times a week. So hopefully in 6-8 weeks I'll be more toned.

Glo, I love nice light fittings, they really finish a room. Now you need to keep up the good work on your diet and you can stand under the lights in your new (smaller) Christmas outfit looking amazing in your fab "new" house; might even post a photo on here?

Keep going everyone. I may need something new for Christmas as lots of my clothes are now too big, I am the lightest I have been since I was an adult but now I am eating fats again the weight loss should stop or I will start to look anorexic! Thank goodness for stretchy jeans, at least they still look OK, just aren't as stretched!

How are you all doing? Now we are in December you all need to concentrate on the last hurdle before Christmas; exercise is good so shopping is a great way to burn off the calories but don't have lattes and cakes. I am meeting a friend on Thursday for coffee and we always had lovely coffees and cakes but I will be watching her while I have my black coffee and NO cake. I might be really naughty and nick a very small corner of hers if I am feeling desperate. My husband eats a pack of 5 donuts in front of me every evening (I used to have one, occasionally two, before I knew I was diabetic) so I am used to seeing but not touching!!!!!

Well done to all of you who are trying hard.

I was talking with a lady last week and she said that if you replace half the fat in cakes with bean paste( like butter beans blended to a paste) the bean will counter out the sugar! And it will be low fat.

Haven't tried it yet. But she said it would make cake suitable for diabetic, mite be worth a try!

Also the house that has been done is lovely, just in time for Christmas. Just got some light fittings delivered to day for upstairs.

Not being able to eat much of what I like I have lost over a stone; now less that 7 and a half stone but not by choice! However, the good news is that what were are being told by diabetic clinics isn't right. We were told less carbohydrates (about 40% of your diet), cut out the saturated fats, eat mainly chicken and cut the fat off chops, red meat etc. Low or zero fat dairy products etc. etc. Well, I have spent days and days on the internet and that is bad advice. We should be cutting virtually all carbs, less fruit (high in sugar), only veg which grow above ground (no potatoes, carrots etc.). We need to eat lots of eggs, (bacon and eggs good but no fried bread, hash browns etc.,) nuts and full fat Greek yoghurt rather than low fat.

Even those who are not diabetic would learn a lot from going on the diabetes website. The scientific evidence really stacks up and high fat foods actually reduce the amount of fat you accumulate. It is CARBOHYDRATES that make you fat. I have just ordered a soup maker so that I can make veggie soups really quickly and then I can add thigs to it.

Glo, your house sounds like it will be fantastic when it is finished, jut in time for a new you and then you can have the new dress (I could send you all mine as they are now too big but hopefully I will be OK in them now I am changing my diet again but still no bread, cakes, pizza, chocolates, lattes etc.

Keep up the good work Ari, I am sure you will get there in the end.

PS Very naughty, as I am allowed fat I bought myself a packet of pork scratchings (I love them) only for my husband to look at them and say "You are what you eat"!

Ari don't know how it happened but just do your best. I find it hard to do any thing but eat when stressed, and you have had plenty with your poorly dog.
Anyway its supporting each other that counts through the good and the hard bits.

Wow, you have done well to lose over a stone. I must get cracking, not gained but not lost either. Got sidetracked with old dog being diagnosed with early stage kidney issues but he's doing great so I need to get a grip.

Well is been some time, I was scared to go near the scales, as I have had so much on, well in for a very plesant surprise 11 st 8 so that's 15 lb in total, how has this happened, stress stress and more stress,, house is now re-roofed, chimmley is down the big hole in the roof and floor history, and we now have a big dining room with seating area, and up stairs we have another big room as we had a room with a room behind before, not done yet but a work in progress.

Well, depends on how much it costs Glo, as you will find in a few weeks it is too big!!!!

Hope you are all doing well with the diets. We went to London last week and took the grand children (half term). We did a Thames boat trip, then the cable car across the Thames and Pizza Express for a meal. It was a lovely day apart from the meal. I could only have less than half on my pizza. Shouldn't have had that much; they do give it to you to take home and then had a black coffee while I sat and drooled watching them all eat their lovely puds. Not sure it will make me live longer but it sure will feel longer!!!

Well it's that time of the year again,and the parties have started already! with so much merry making, I have stopped dieting for the last few weeks, I am going to try to be good for the next 4 days, then hopefully I will not look like a whale for this Friday, so, do you think it's a good reason to get a new dress!

Well done Glo! I went on the scales at the vet (little dog in and had to have a general anasthetic) and realised I have at least a stone to lose! (Receptionist changed the scales from kilograms to pounds for me) Lost a few pound today through worry (although she's fine)and lost a lot of pounds in my bank account, but worth every penny!

Managed to get to 11.12 this week,did lots of cheating, but the good days were good, I seem to be ok the first half of the week ,get to Thursday and then have the will power of a nat! Still happy with 2lb, was having a blonde moment last week and realised that there are 14 lb in a stone
